Where did that silly meme come from?! AAs vote Dem ever since the 1960s because the Democrats got behind the civil rights movement then. They never voted Dem for the sake of welfare benefits, which pretty much ended in the 1990s anyway.

Even now those claiming to be educated aren't familiar with figurative or metaphorical language. The term in question, Democrat Plantation, is used as a metaphor to imply that Democrats or the Democrat Party's political and social policies keep certain groups, particularly African Americans, in a state of dependency or subjugation "akin" to how slaves were subjugated on historical plantations. Yes, it's harsh but true.

But, no such policies are keeping AAs in dependence or subjugation. The only things keeping them down are white racism, and the environmental effects of multigenerational poverty -- which would persist even if the racism went away.

I think it was George Will, who has always been a very dependable source of propaganda rationalizing the Republicans' racism.
Oh, yes, old George Will -- I remember the day he publicly renounced his last shred of credibility. It was in connection with Iran-Contra -- something about the president (Reagan) needing to be shielded from knowledge of certain things because he was "not a prime minister."

I notice nobody contradicts this.

Very well expressed. Love 99 percent of your posts.

Of course it's a metaphor -- but it's not one that actually applies to anything.

Well, Reichguide's post is an accurate description of what right-wingers tell themselves about Democrats. But nothing more than that.

Clinging to the edge as you slip into the trash can of history. Later.......bye.

This wasn't any realigning election, you know. It's not the Reagan Revolution or anything that important.

I think it's probably the last gasp of the Reagan Revolution. At this point most people know trickle down economics theory is horseshit. Now the battle is between people who want to make the USA a better place for everyone, and those who've given up all hope and just wanted to send a "fuck you" to everyone else. The one thing Trump is very good at is giving a voice to the latter camp. But as we've seen time and again, no one else can be Trump.

Blacks used to be a very reliable GOP base until 1930s. It was due to Dems being the party of the Confederacy.
They changed in 1930s because of New Deal. They went even further thanks to Great Society in 1960s. Their mindset is that Dems will always help them out with handouts, though these days, it is more with DEI, affirmative action and jobs programs. Go to any government office in America and you will find a great preponderence of black people working there.
"Dem Plantation" is a term conservative blacks came up with. I think it hits the mark. But if black people are truly ok with their communities and schools, I say, vote Democrat and stay exactly as you are. Far be it from me to want to improve things.

It is a cultural plantation of the mind; the soft enslavement of low expectation and desired outcome...

You haven't talked to very many Blacks about why they vote the way they do. If any.

The civil rights movement was a reframing by white, liberal America trading chains for velvet rope.

White Polimenpeople never have any problem putting people on "reservations."

They know what is best for everyone else.

I say: bring back the institution.

A place for mom.
