Patients 50% more likely to die of neglect than in US, says study

Death rates in NHS hospitals are among the highest in the western world, shock figures revealed yesterday.

British patients were found to be almost 50 per cent more likely to die from poor care than those in America.

They have five times the chance of dying from pneumonia and twice the chance of being killed by blood poisoning.

Experts say that, despite recent improvements, NHS death rates still outstrip those in many other European countries.

Gee, I'm surprised SeanH hasn't been in to dispute this as right-wing propaganda? Or RobtheBlob hasn't said anything, except Merc's hand would have to be up his ass in order for him to talk at all.

And here comes Obamacare, an even worse deal than NHS in England.

In some areas the NHS is poor and an embarrassment in others its world class. You don't have an equivalent in the US so we can't really compare.

All I do know is that if you don't have adequate insurance then you're fucked.

I think we should do what you do though but only with foreigners. Anyone who falls ill who isn't a citizen and doesn't have insurance dies. Either that or, steal a kidney or two off them and send them home.

Oh, I don't know, is it maybe because the poor and elderly are much more likely to actually be in hospital at the end of their life than they are in the US? You know, due to the fact that they don't have to pay for it or die at home or on the street?

Yes sean...god forbid someone be allowed to die in the comfort of their own home and not under the supervision of the state.

Why don't you go find more people with jobs and call them scum.....you vile sack of shit.

What die at home on your own in agony? Don't you think its better off if people actually have a choice?

Hmm. People who are dying have a choice for hospice care. Either at home or in a facility specific to hospice. No agony. Love at the end of their journey.

And those dying in hospitals in the UK tend to be elderly and/ or poor. An option that doesn't exist in the US.

For the record, are you saying that British people are not allowed to die in the comfort of their own home, that there'e some HNS police that comes and drags them away?

And yet Brits live significantly longer than Americans!

Could be that most poor and old Americans couldn't afford to be in Hospital in the first place.

My Ma died in an NHS hospital a few years ago of neglect - her own. She told us she'd had enough and just refused to eat. She was 96.

It is not perfect, but it is still a wonderful thing.

The treatment of the elderly is undergoing a massive review because we know it isn't perfect.

My own personal experience of the NHS is first rate, as is everyone's I know who has used it. It doesn't mean it can't get better - but everyone who needs treatment gets it free, regardless of age or ability to pay. I am not sure what that says about people who would criticise it.

It's the Daily Mail. Part of the privatisation propaganda.

Yes. Some people will believe it - but too many people use it to know the truth.

It's funny, you ask anyone that has actually used it and you get nothing but praise and admiration, yet the Mail and their lookalikes are constantly full of stories about how awful it is.

I've lived in both the UK and the US, our system is VASTLY superior.

I never take for granted the care I get from the NHS. A time when I was really ill I was in the acute ward with 1 nurse to 2 patients and was treated amazingly well. I have also needed many many operations for my rubbish ears and have always been treated so brilliantly.

Those people who slate it in the UK generally pay privately and would rather not have to pay into a system which they don't want to use - and hence not give a fuck about anyone else.

I am incredibly proud of it.

Our system is different and will be so even when we go single payer or national health. Hospitals are for recovery. We have skilled nursing homes for recovery or home health. For those who are dying, it's hospice care.

The poor who chose to be in the system get better care than the middle class. You either have to be wealthy or poor. The other option is to give your money to your children so you are poor than have your children subsidize your living wants.

Of course, I know the rules and can manipulate the system when I get there.

Yes...choice...it's a good thing....and something neither nation wishes to give it's people...no money in that.

And they wear Obama shirts.

No really...I just wanted to call Sean a piece of shit again, b/c he is a vile excuse for a human being and I hope he get's herpes if the little junkie doesn't have them already, he did touch Dolf once.
