I hate 'em. :(

Let's call them "life changes" instead.

So I'm making a life change that has to do with my alcohol consumption. I wish it was a resolution to drink more; alas, it's the opposite. I've done it before and I can't say I've enjoyed it, but it is once again time to quit drinking.

Four months is the longest I've ever lasted.... Hey, I never said I had a lot of willpower.

Anybody got life changes, major or minor, they plan on making this year?

Go for it buddy. Quit drinking three months ago and don't miss it. (It wasn't a problem for me, drinking that is. My wife does have a history of it in her family and it bothered her to see me drinking so we talked it over and to remove that fear from her mind I quit.)

You have to want to quit though, and that's the secret to quiting anything. You have to want to quit.

Good luck.

Nothing much here really,I'm not the resolution/life change type person!*L*

New years resolutions????

I like a drink, but as I've got older, I've found I don't do it quite so much. It's not like I go out and do it, it's just a two or three small bottles a night, at the worst, while I'm sitting here.

The most might be up to six, when there's a big footie match on telly. but then I'll probably go without for a couple of days, so it averages out. It's my only vice, except for this thing, so I ain't quitting.

I wish I could push myself to do more excercise. We eat quite well in my house, quite healthily but perhaps a little too much, so if anything, I'll be trying to exercise more.

Other than that, Naaahhhhhh!!!!!

:D :D

I have a few I'd like to strive for this year, but the main one is to give up my slutty ways... gonna be hard ;)

The others I'll work on lol

What a coincidence. I was thinking about New Year's Resolutions this morning - not for myself, mind you, but for the people I ran into. How about...

The local busdrivers: "We promise to set our watches straight so we won't be so late."

The cash registers in the supermarket: "We promise to not be rude and sarcastic towards our costumers."

The local politicians: "We promise to live one month like Mel Brooks did in Life Stinks, so that we'll get a hunch on what life is actually like for our voters."

and so on...

I usually don't -- but this year, I'm gonna.

I'm going to spend 2005 laying the foundations for my independence -- especially financially.

I've some ideas for a business venture that appeals to my altruistic nature. I won't make a killing -- and may not even make enough to support myself -- but I will help LOTS of people and derive great personal satisfaction.

A few. They've nothing to do with the new year, though.

Ditto.

Shall we start a club? ;)

But to be serious. I really do have to lose an awful lot of weight. Its beginning to affect my health, and with the advance of years, that's kind of frightening.

I gave up smoking when I moved house, quite easily. I just wish I could give up food, or rather some foods, as easily. I've always had a weight problem since puberty tapped me on the shoulder and called me 'cuddly'. From there, it was pregnancy's turn...but it wasn't 'cuddly', it was, 'well hullloooooo, fatty'. And from there, its just got worse.

I want desperately to visit as many of you as I can across the pond, sometime around May/June..........my target is to try and get myself to an acceptable size and sight before then.

God, its going to be hard. But...........

hrm
well, my life changes on a daily basis so
i suppose what i will do is obtain a job
save money
and if luck is with me this year, i will be moving to the southern states...if not, ill be making the landing there a bit softer by paying off debt ive incurred whilst going to school for my useless computer sciences degree.

Mat -I lost around 3 stone in the last 8/9 months or so because my weight was effecting my health. If you want any hints and tips I'll be glad to help out. Ooh and I recommend seeing your practise nurse. Mine was so very helpful and got me on this cool (and free) lifestyle and weight management course which is all very sensible stuff and got me a free 12 week gym pass.

You don't need to give up any foods you like -just work out how much of'em you can have...honestly it is easier than you think!

One thing though -make sure you're doing it for yourself and not for society. Society can go jump but if you're unhappy with you then go ahead and do something about it :)

Thanks EL
Already seen the practice nurse, had to do the whole registration thing when I moved and changed doctors. Blood pressure was way too high, but I already knew that, its been that way for years.
I also have duff knees........torn cartilage in one, and torn ligament in the other. So extra weight doesn't help. I love to walk, and where I live all the best walks are very hilly. I can't do hills any more, going down hill causes incredibly painful stress on both knees.
Basically, I'm physically very very very lazy. My job is sedentry, I drive to and from work, I eat too much fat. I know all the things I'm doing wrong. I need someone else's head instead of mine, and someone else's impetus to get my fat ass moving.

I know I can do it. 2 years ago, I lost 20 pounds, relatively easily, and as you said, without giving up the foods I like. But once I stopped being careful, it all piled back on. I could make excuses, like I've had a crap year, emotionally and financially, but they are just excuses.

Thanks for the support. From now on, its down, and up, to me.

My New Year's Resolution: I promise not to make any New Year's Resolutions this year, if I can possibly help it.

So whenever we see you posting on Lit, we should start a thread saying "Hey, rgraham! Get your ass back to work", right?

:D

This may make me sound like a total beotch but I dont care... This year is MY year. I'm going to do what is good for ME and MY family before anything else. NO more stretching myself out and skimping on whats important, others will manage without me.

I want to get busy on furthering my education to get a half decent job, I want to get rid of some of this weight, wait, 90% of this weight Im carrying, and I HAVE to quit saying FUCK all the time, my kids think its no different then hello anymore! lol

Not much to do eh, well I try thats all I can ask of myself.

I'm absolutely beaming after reading this. Stick to your guns, beautiful. I'd love to know more about this business venture if you're interested in sharing.

Baby, I'm not sure the southern states are ready for the likes of you, but I sure as hell am. :rose:

My new year's resolution is typically to cut back on my swearing, but this year I'm going a bit bigger. I resolve to devote more time to school and give it my all, as well as arranging my life in such a way that I can readily accomodate my fantastic family. :rose:

That would probably help.

Resolutions...

Similar to RG - more writing, but I'm not sure if I can squeeze 4 hours in each day with my job. Definitely a strict writing schedule, though. Maybe I'll aim for two hours.

Another thing I want from the coming year is more independence. I plan on getting my own place, decorating it the way I like and setting up a thumping big tropical fish tank.

I'm also going to smoke less, exercise more, try and be more patient with my grandmother and get to bed before midnight. Then, hopefully by the end of 2005, I should have sprouted a halo.:p
