New Chain Story Idea: Superstitions

CrimsonMaiden said:
Ok, I think chain letters is self explanatory.

What is the superstition for church and crossing the line?

crossing the line - the ritual actually developed from the tradition in ancient times of sacrificing a member of the crew to the sea gods to ensure a safe voyage for the ship and good luck for all those on board

- a bird perched on the weather vane means a death in the parish in the next week
- a bird flying in during a service means good luck to all in the parish
- the sound of a church door rattling means an impending death
- anyone wanting to see who will die in the next twelve months should sit on the church steps on halloween night and watch the souls pass by
- the person on the steps can save those doomed by throwing off a piece of clothing with each persons passing

Okie dokie then ...

Well ... *dramatic sigh*, count me in sis. LOL I wouldn't even know where to begin with picking a topic OR a letter. You know me and I trust your opinion. Just point me in the right direction ...

As far as the Nude Day contest ... sounds delish. Is there a specific category we need to stick with? Just let me know ...

Always,
cyn

It really isn't very clear, BTulip, now that you mention it...

We shall assume that it's this way to keep us from feeling constrained or limited in our approach!

Each story written does not have a specific genre as the story will post as a chain story. However each story must include the superstition in it and make sure that it is explained as best as the story can. There is no limit as to what superstitions anyone uses in the story but please do not use another person's superstition. At the end of the week I will post when people should have their stories submitted by.

Elizabeth..
i would really like to do violets.
much appreciated..
vella:D

edited to add: In Greece, growing violets in or around a home was considered an effective ward against wandering spirits. is this the superstition?

- anything less then a handful of them taken indoors will bring bad luck
- farmers believe that one or two of the flowers carried ito their homes will cause their young chickens and ducks to fall ill or die
- if they bloom in the autumn it is said to be a death omen for the people on whose land they are growing

in addition to what you have that is what the book i have has

:)

- pine cones are a means of predicting the weather, for they will stay open when the omens are fine, but as soon as they close then rain is on its way

- all such stones put into honey become more brilliant
- a setting consisting of diamonds, sapphires, and loadstones will make a man invincible and a woman quite irresistible
(if you want a specific stone tell me which one)

- if it blooms in June it brings bad luck
- a gift of them should always be a full bunch never single
- good as a protection against evil spirits
- cure for insomnia

This sounds like fun so let me take the letter "G". Before I gert involved, however, will this qualify for the chain story category in the Survivor's Contest?

Yep Box. It's a chain story, so it qualifies.

I would expect that but the Snippetsville stories are also part of a chain but they do not.:rose:

:) That last one sounds like it would work for National Nude Day:p

If I understand the thing about the Snippetville stories... they are a special category onto themselves... so they are not actually a part of the chain stories cat.

It doesn't have to be BT but I figured that with so many participating in the contest and then in the survivor contest it would be an easy draw in for those that are struggling with categories.
