Listening to this again reminds me why I started listening to NIN and any music other than country (my parents listened to country and Elvis only) way back when.

I never really got into NIN.
This is the first song my brother forced me to listen to. I was 12 and became an addict to metal :)

Hiya Mal! Ah, yes, Iron Maiden.

My best friend when I was younger was huge into NIN, and got me into a bunch of different music. My cousin got me into a bunch of music when we were younger: he put this in my stereo when we were going to sleep, and he started listening to this band when they came out with Darkest Days and got me sucked in.

For me it was just my brother in the beginning. He also made me listen to this when the album got out. It was the first metal CD I bought. I'm not proud of it today, not much of a Korn fan.
After he got me to listen to this, I stopped waiting for him to show me music and began researching online myself.

I was a HUGE Korn fan back in the day. It was another band my best friend showed me, back around the time that Follow The Leader came out. Also got into a whole number of metal acts, like Slipknot (who I actually still enjoy).

I never was a huge Pink Floyd fan, although they do have some excellent songs. I prefer Led Zeppelin though.

You might actually be too young for this, but a long time ago me and my best friend used to visit MP3.com, back when it was basically what MySpace Music is now, except 100,000,000 times better. It was how the both of us got our start in music, and discovered bands like Celldweller, Halo in Reverse and a few now-defunct bands like Drop Shadow.

Edit: We actually used to spend our entire day after school when not doing homework on that site, checking the music charts and listening to new bands. It was like MySpace Music in that you could listen to any song that the artist posted, and you could message each other through profiles and things like that, you could also download a ton of free music that the artists would allow you to, but the biggest difference is that there were music charts based on downloads and listens, and often there would be so many amazing songs from incredible bands I would never have found otherwise.

I never liked Slipknot really, however at 14 I saw them live as support for Metallica and they were way better than Metallica.

I definitely prefer PF to Led Zep, despite loving Led more than life itself. Pink Floyd were just that awesome!

I used to get a few dollars a week as allowance, by the time I really got into music I had like 200USD saved up and I started to buy a CD pretty much every week for like two years. I discussed music in an online community and whenever something was recommended, I'd download a song or two before buying it. After a while I completely stopped downloading and just got what I knew other people into the same stuff as me liked. By 14 I had around 100 CDs, including all by Pantera who I used to consider my favourite band. That was actually the year Dimebag died (RIP). At this point I would always (like 9 days out of 10) be wearing a band shirt - well, not much has changed ;)

(The first site I used was Napster, I was into this a few years before MySpace)

I think Slipknot have got progressively better over the years in both lyrical content and musicianship. But I can understand why people might not like them.

I had a job when I was 12-14 delivering flyers. Didn't pay a whole lot, but paid enough for me to put some money away. However, every week I'd usually buy a new CD. I still pick up CD's when I can. I have somewhere in the realm of 300 at this point and still not done collecting. I can say that I have all the discs and videos except maybe one or two of the singles in NIN's catalogue, and all of Tool's except maybe one or two of the singles as well. I haven't owned anything except VNV Nation band shirts for a little while (I also have all except Advance and Follow from them) but I have a lot of geek shirts (like my Church of Optimus shirt. Too bad ZeStuff.com doesn't sell stuff anymore).

If you were 14 the year Dimebag died you're definitely too young to have even seen MP3.com in its glory days, haha. That was like 10-12 years ago (oh god I'm old).

I only have around 150 CDs but I have only bought like 5 a year in the last few years, ever since I got into vinyl. Those I have around 300 of though. Now I only get CDs if they're incredibly cheap or it's something new I have to own (last buy of new music was a year ago, Them Crooked Vultures)
I have all The Doors pre-Morrisons death on vinyl (several on CD too). And I have all the original Sex Pistols on vinyl (who can guess how many albums that is?)
My vinyl collection is rather random as it is based on what I've got from others for free and what I've managed to pick up at second hand store that aren't specialized in records. The price on those are good but it is rare that I find anything worth owning.

As for shirts, a few political ones have slipped into my closet too. And a few normal shirts for whenever I'm around the grandparents :p

I don't know MP3.com, we had other sites in Denmark.
And yes, I'm young ^^ Only been nine years since I started listening to Maiden ;)

EDIT: I'm outta here to go bake cookies, have fun folks.

You're likely about 19-20 now, if my math isn't off. I'm not much older, but still older. Heck, my last girlfriend was older than that by a couple years and I still felt like a cradle robber, haha.

Still wouldn't stop me, though, haha.

Edit: My uncle loved vinyl, had a bunch of his country records on vinyl. I've never listened to vinyl extensively, so I'm not sure what the sound difference is, although I've heard it described as richer. Still, impressive that you have 300 vinyl records.

That is an impressive collection of vinyl, Malstroem, especially to me who comes from a generation where everything was bought, dubbed or mixed with cassette tapes. All of my favorite Metallica, Megadeth and AC DCs have degraded to a choppy garble! Or my mix tapes that I made for the car sound like someone is playing the song on an old beat up radio in the next room. I missed that wonderful age of vinyl, but was very excited when the digital age came around.

I never got into napster much because I was all scared of Lars Ulrich sneaking into my house at night and breaking my hard drive. (Anyone remember this video?) Looking back, it is crazy how much things have changed in the last decade. I mean, CDs are obsolete, but vinyl is a collectible. Downloading music is now fine and dandy. Now, anyone can sing through the use of Auto Tune (even the news)! Plus we store hundreds if not thousands of songs and little portable boxes that will probably give us cancer. Technology is a wild ride! ;)

I have not owned a cool rock shirt in a few years, but one of my favorites was from the band Jackyl. Sadly in the end, that shirt smelled too much like teenage boy, so I had to burn it. A fitting tribute I think to a hero that helped get me through many a teenage angst!

And I can't wait for cookies!
