Save it as a BMP file.

Open the BMP file with MS PhotoEditor or any other photo processing program.

Select "Save As" from the file menu and choose "JPeg" or "GIF" in the file type box. (In some programs, you "export" instead of "Save As" to convert to Jpeg or GIF format.)


You can, of course, resize the picture to fit in the process of doing the conversion.

Is there a 20k limit for AVs? I keep forgettin. Here it is within that limit, too. Wnated to keep the quality up, but the size was bigger.

Yep, the file-size limit for avatars is 20480 bytes which is 20Kb exactly.

Most avatars don't suffer a lot of compression loss, so I don't worry too much about quality when setting the compression (in fact I seldom change the compression factor setting in PSP unless I'm having trouble with a picture that doesn't want to compress as well as most.)
