Hi there:

I have recently submitted a few new stories and they have been mis-categorized! My story has been put under the 'incest' column though I had no initial intention of making it as such.

I have, therefore, received numerous 'complaints' that the story is in the wrong category. How do I fix this?

Thanks!

Send a PM to Laurel. Explain why you believe the story is in the wrong category and ask her to post it in the correct one.

Don't count on it getting moved. The story I looked at was three Lit. pages of a son watching his mother having sex multiple times on a Web site on a laptop and ends with the son thinking, "However, the worst part was that I was probably disgusted from the fact that I was so turned on by it. My hard-on was stuck in my pants on that day and my stop on the train was approaching soon and I knew I would have to get off – in more ways than one!"

Incest is a trump category here.

Because the kid was watching his mother, I guess that is why it went into incest, but since the kid never touches mom its going to get killed there. They want an "all in" story or they're not satisfied. Lit is a place that since it allows full out incest people are not happy with anything short of it.

Better category would have been exhibition/voyeurism course it could get flamed there as well.

Only way this story could do well, is for you to replace mom with mom's hot older friend who is staying with them and go into voyeurism, or have the kid actually get it on with mom to some degree and have it in incest.

It won't get moved, incest is Lits biggest money maker, but its little red headed step child as well and they don't let it out of its house.

I once wrote a step-incest story, and didn't even consider that it would belong in incest, but that's where it went. In the end, it was for the best; I got great view and vote numbers.

Thanks for the replies Sr71PLt/Lovecraft68/MistressLynn:

It's unfortunate because my story is going to get eaten alive by disappointment - something that I did NOT want. I didn't spend years, days and hours for someone to be 'disappointed at my story' just because Literotica put it in the wrong category. Perhaps a note needs to be made at the beginning of the story.

I remember the passage that lovecraft68 referenced and I do agree that it was hinting towards incest. However, the story never fully goes that direction. Is that more of a failure of the story or is there a need to split the 'incest/taboo' categories?

My story would be most suitable under the 'taboo' category more than anything.

This story just seemed to fall between the cracks with the categories of this site (which is inevitable) but it's not like I can delete my stories now - or can I?

It is just frustrating to be getting comments from people that love my story - my best one yet and have them feel 'let down'. Now it seems that I'm forced to make a spin-off story with full-blown incest.

As for MatthewVett, I'm a bit upset that it is in the incest section because my story rating is taking a hit because of it.

You're in luck, then. It is in the Taboo category (go back and look at the category titles). It just so happens that the Incest part dominates in that category, according to reader custom.

If it was in the Exhibitionist & Voyeur category, you'd have just as many readers saying it's in the wrong category, that it should be in the Incest category. (The whole thing is about a son being locked into watching his mother having sex--and getting hard watching it.)

It was written with more than one dominant center, and you're stuck with Literotica policy to have trump categories.

It could be worse. If I so much as mention "gay," my stories go into GM (and, yes, I have readers saying some of them should have been in another category) and I can't publish bi stories here at all without them taking a beating (just had a series suffer that) because there is no bi category here.

You work with what's here.

And, really, you can't assume what a story is getting lower ratings than you thought it should get.

It could be worse, yes. But now my story wouldn't be going to audience that would be comfortable with a 'cuckold' element that wouldn't be comfortable with an 'incest' element.

It really really sucks.

I have a story where a sister is made to give her brother a blowjob. I put it in incest and got told in so many comments that it needed to be in Non-con that I asked Laurel to move it.

They didn't like it there because it's got a brother and sister having sex.

Shrug.

I just write here, I kind of gave up on figuring out what the readers want a while back.

Did Laurel move it? And if it was moved, did you receive no complaints that it should be in Incest/Taboo.

Yes she moved it.

For the most part I got only a few comment after it was placed in Non-Con. But yea one of two had to do with the fact it was a brother and sister.

Oh well, it like most of my store are experiments in writing. Good comments or bad I take what comes. I generally only delete a comment when some one cusses me. That I don't put up with.

I guess I always thought stories were self-categorized. Every time I submit, I pick the category it should go into. Do editors override this if they feel that the story should go elsewhere?

Also, while Incest and Gay Male seem to be "trump" categories, are there any other "trump" categories (Celebrities, probably,) and is there any special consideration for stories in the same series? (Reading this, I'm a little nervous; I just submitted a third installment to a series of mine in Interracial, but this story definitely walks the BDSM line. I don't want my series split off like that because it would be harder to follow for my readers.)

It's not editors. There are no editors on Lit. There is Laurel, one of the co-owners, and she is the one who vets the stories. If she feels the category is wrong, she will change it. You can, however, send her a private message (PM) if you disagree and explain why, and ask her to change it.

Gay Male doesn't always trump everything else; I've read some nonhuman stories (I forget the author's name) that included GM sex, and I don't recall anyone complaining, and the chapters were all in nonhuman. I think your story is probably fine; some categories have a broad range of the sex (or lack thereof) involved.

There's one editor and yes she can and does override category choices.

Those are the three major trumps that spring to my mind. Chapters in the same series can be categorized to separate categories.
