Reading the five faves thread got me thinking. How many CD"S do you own? I was a DJ for 14 year so the number I have is staggering, and every song is in a database and every cd is numbered and filed. The grand total number of CD'S I own RIGHT NOW is 6,278. The number of songs, not including repeats, on those 6,278 CDS is 17,580. Now that's some tunes.

It hurts when I think that I can only listen to them one at a time. How long would that take?

Assuming an average song length of four and a half minutes, listening to them around the clock non-stop would take you just shy of 55 days.

You'll hate this Ambro.....

As I do.

You know - I do so love my music and I'm a pretty organized fella. But we moved recently. My mother-in-law "helped" pack us for the move (the Shebabe was busy with the new baby and my work sched in never easy) so she helped, and - ALL 3000+ OF MY CD'S ARE NOW COMPLETELY OUT OF ALPHABETIAL ORDER!!!!!!!!!!

And it's a daunting job to put them back in.

So, lately (and this may very well change - soon) I'm of the "random mind-set."

It all boils down to geography, the geography of my CD shelves - "today I'll listen to something form the South West quadrant, tomorrow? Dead center middle, next day the lower left corner." It could be jazz, rock, old, new, anything.

Random. It's kinda cool.

...yikes!

I just have this image of me driving down the road, looking through my CD's as I so often do, to find the right one to play. Now I only have about 30 CD's. The image of having my car filled with 6,000 CD's and rummaging through those is quite hilarious! I couldn't even imagine having that much music. It would take me hours to find my Bon Jovi Crush album, that could be tragic!

CD's?? What are CD's??? Been listening to my 8-tracks...just kidding!...well, kind of, I do still own quite a few 8-tracks...My CD collection is quite small, only about 50 CDs in my collection so far. They range from classical to heavy metal, easy listening to reggae, some country, and some holiday music.

Sparky

I would hurt someone, although I did drop one of my cases while wrapping up one night at a club. It took three days to get that one case back in order. On the plus side, I found some music I hadn't played in a while, because I had to come up with something!

Now at last count which was right after Thanksgiving when I moved back in with my mother i had 387 cds!! I had a hell of a time putting them back in alphabetical order after my damn mother put them in boxes

Why can't some people understand the need to put things where you can find them. I own only about 40 CD's (Mozart to Metalica - Clanad to Chess sound track) but they are definately in Artist alph order. I also own about 2000 books, which are in Author alpha order.

1300 CDs, most though 2nd hand shops
5213 Cassettes
740+ Alblums
73 8 track and
4 reel to reels

ive got about 100 CDs which are in my own personal order. they are in the order in which i myself only understands. the ones i like most are in the front and easy to find. the ones i dont listen to soo often stay in the back. if i but them in ABC order Ace of Base would be in the front and that would jsut be a tragedy....

Thanks Bobtoad, glad I am not the only one who has 8-track tapes still...and albums, OMG!...too many too count!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with anal retentive tendencies! :)
All of the 100 or so CD's I have are not only alphabetized, but categorized by musical style: hard rock, pop, R&B, gospel, classical......
Keeping the kids out of them is a whole 'nuther proposition.

I was a manager at NRM, and got anything I wanted for free. (promos) So I have an entire closet full of cds. Some of them have never been opened.

250 CD's
80 or so Tapes
2 Vinyl
300 or so Books
20 different bottles of Bourbon... empty

well over 300 but close to 400 CD's in my collection.....I just sold off over 100 that never got any play....
