Movies that could have been great but fell short...

Tim Curry's great.

I thought Dances with Wolves could have been a terrific flick if it weren't for KC. I still love the movie though.

He's just so one dimentional, monotone. I thought his best performance was in No Way Out.

I'm no critic, I just know what I like.

I remember seeing this movie "The Boy Who Could Fly" on television, years ago.

It was beautiful. A tale about faith and love, a tale that struck me as being ultimately about motherhood and the tenuous bond of asymetric relationships.

There's this little boy that survives this plane wreck in which his father dies. He's mute and apparently semi-autistic. He says that he can fly.

Nobody believes him, of course, but this teenage girl finds herself getting closer to him and validating his feelings in a very real way.

Then they ruined it. She believes that he can fly. And then he does. WTF? The tagline says that it's about believing in miracles, blah, blah, blah...

But I thought this is a movie that could have won Academy awards if they had ended it correctly. In the climactic scene at the end of the movie, the kid jumps out the window and swoops down--saving the girl. It's implied that her "faith" in his ability to fly is what made it happen. Utterly, and completely unbelievable.

But I couldn't help but think how sad and poignant it would have been if he had jumped out of the window and died--despite her belief. All of a sudden, this ridiculous fantasy would have become a coming-of-age movie with great depth--honestly, I think it could have won an Academy award except for this stupid ending.

any kevin costner movie cut down by two hours ................that isnt about baseball

I hated Batman - not into that kind of flick anyway but ...

Godzilla - are you fucking kidding me?

Sleepy Hollow, the one that was realeased a couple of years ago... could have been SO FUCKING SCARY. but NO it was actually comical in some areas... I was hoping to leave the theater scared shitless and horny as hell...

Hannibal.

I adored Silence of the Lambs, read Red Dragon before anyone heard of Hannibal Lechter :)

Saw the movie and alternated between thinking....Oh they cut that part or oh, that's not what happened and then laughing at the "scary" parts. I'm sorry but when he pushed that guy out window and his "guts" fell out, all I could think of was .."Sausage links..they used sausage links".

Even the pigs were comical.

Varsity Blues. It could have been a fantastic movie about the over-emphasis on High School Football but ended up being another Sports Movie

The sequel to Mortal Kombat.

Please .... they had such a kickass movie with the first one. Then some bastard had to go and ruin it. The costumes sucked. The acting with the exception of Robin Shue was horrible. And the special FX were terrible.

I would love to see MK get a fantastic sequel. It was so deserving.

Jeepers Creepers!

It Coulda, And Was Great, Til They Came Down Ta One On One With The Bad Guy!

Attack Of The Clones. It promised to have more action, &, less Jar Jar. Too fucking bad the acting,(other than McGregor,), directing, &, script was HORRENDOUS!!!!!! Although, it was co-written by Lucas, so, that was to be expected. And, taht love story. AHHHHH!!! It was slighly better than Phantom Menace, I admit. I've said it before, they should of had Lucas direct & write the 1st one, but, leave the last two to others, like they did for the classic trilogy.

Lucas settled for the wrong tone with these prequels. Dark and brooding was the way to go, not catering to kids and infusing tepid love stories. Especially considering the original fans are all adults now. He didn't need to rope in more kids, he would have made his money off the die hard fans that he has since alienated.

The Sum Of All Fears could have been the best Clancy-adapted movie ever. But they dicked with the script and it was all downhill from there.

I Fully agree...there needed to be a very VERY dark and powerful reason that Darth Vader became what he was...a hard scenario to follow-through on now what with the likes of Jar Jar. I will say that the introduction of the love story could have a solid place in the prequels, but again, influenced with a large amount of darkness and evil...

Then again, if it were as dark as I'd like it I'd have to wait 10 years to watch it with my son

I think one idea is to rewrite history, figuratively speaking. I'm not talking about remaking Episode 1 & 2--but reframing them. Suppose that in the third movie, it turns out that there is a reason for Anakin's bad acting--namely that his character was acting, too. It's all an act. He was "assisted" by the darkside from the very beginning.

It would explain his absurd and crazy success in the first movie, and his insincerity in the second. Why else did he defeat the robot army so easily? Because it was orchestrated by someone else! Why do his "adventures" seem so contrived? Because they are contrived--by the evil force which already owns him. He just doesn't know it yet.

Insomnia

Being Human

The Big Kahuna (any movie with that much talent should never have been allowed to suck that much)

Lilo & Stitch

...I could keep going, but I'll stop.
