Crazy how seemingly innocent statements can cause such turmoil in your life. I volunteered last-minute to help out with the election in my area. I got a call asking if I was still available, and then discussed three opportunities. Since I've never worked in a polling place, I didn't know the positions being discussed.

So, thinking I might as well be as helpful as I can be, simply said, "Just place me where you have the biggest need." That ended up being a voting inspector position.

Which meant the next day I was required to attend a mandatory 3-hour training....

.... and take a "tub" with all the voting stuff in my car...

...and inventory everything to make sure I had all the stuff...

...and discover that while there will be three precincts voting in the same location, MY precinct has only 1 inspector (me) and the work hours are 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM...

...and that I am responsible to set up the polling location and clean up after the polls close...

...and that I am to deliver the ballots to the counting location, and have a 2nd person in the car with me as I go...

...and that I am responsible for making sure the other volunteers get scheduled breaks and meals....

Sheesh...
