I just finished playing a few bars of it on the piano and realized what a great song that would be to hear in the background while blindfolded, bound and....

Is there any music that inspires you (litsters)?

Carmina Burana, the entirety but especially the first act, "O Fortuna," which although the name may not sound familiar, anyone who has ever been to a movie in their life will recognize it. It's that popular/overused. Nevertheless, very very powerful music with amazing dynamics.

The first movement of the Scheherazade Suite (Rimsky-Korsakov) always has some sort of effect on me.

My fav .......

is

Inside by Peter Horn

He is a flute player

and this album was recored inside the Tai Jma Hall
(I know I misspelled all this)

I have to agree with Johnny (now I don't feel so weird posting this LOL). I like to scene to alternative music. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and YES!! Audioslave (what a great collection of tunes....and isn't that title so apropos LOL) Fortunately, He and i share similar tastes in music. Thank the gods! *picturing myself scening to yodeling cowboys or something...shudder*

Audioslave...

Absofreakinglutley! Luv 'em... (Like a Stone. awesome tune. lol)

Nine Inch Nails (trent rezner) the Closer to God cd. All of it...*grin*

Ravel's Bolero would be interesting.... Starts off very slow and soft... and then builds...

In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg.... finishes with a flourish.....

hmmm.... going to dust off my cd player in my computer methinks...
:D

i enjoy some of the arabic/bellydance combinations that i have come across, drumming such as native american...screaming guitars...loud rhythmic drumming really gets to me...

i would offer a comment more towards the classical lines but they have already been mentioned. Carmina Burana is a favorite of mine.

And on a different note...Danzig, too...

darn, i am shifting in my chair here lol i should not have answered this thread during my lunch hour. :D

A couple off the top of my head are: Peter Gabriel's Passion: Music from The Last Temptation of Christ is nice - no lyrics and a wide range of Middle Eastern inspired music. I also like Portishead's Dummy CD - the whole thing has that kind of weird languid 'sub-space' feel, and the lyrics could easily be read as D/s often.

Hell yes, Portishead all the way. Her voice just sends me flying.

If I'm feeling a little more upbeat (I said "beat," ha, ha ha....ha), I adore Tool; either of the CDs "Aenima" or "Lateralus" are consistent enough in mood to be played all the way through with little awkwardness, and the beats are so dark and grinding. Very inspiring.

Also big on NIN; my favorite song to be beaten to would have to be the instrumental "The Mark Has Been Made" from the CD "The Fragile." Again with the dark, rolling, ominous guitar and drums. If I want to get violent, I'll play "Somewhat Damaged" from the same CD.

I thought Alice in Chains would offer me many treats, since they're so dischordant and guitar-heavy, but the best I have from them is "Frogs," which I highly recommend for any angry bedroom scene. Getting to see a trend here? :D

However, the most evocative single piece of music that puts both T and I in the "angry fuck" mood is Rob D's piece from The Matrix soundtrack, "Clubbed to Death." Everyone, go out and get this! I can't even listen to it on my own anymore. My goodness.

Portishead, not only Dummy but the second one too, it has a very Gothic (not Goth, Gothic) sensibility, the sonic equivalent of a Murnau film.

Massive Attack

Indian influenced electronica: Talvin Singh's wonderful disc OK and his compilation Sounds of the Asian Underground

Music by Bill Laswell and his millions of projects, Axiom records

Any nice deep electrionica works. A Guy Called Gerald, Aphex Twin...that ilk.

Oh, since the angry fuck deserves a mention, for me it's Sonic Youth covering the Stooges. How fucked up is Kim Gordon screaming "Now I wanna be your Dog!" like her life depends on it.

Sick. Twisted. Spine tingling.

Nice. I'm a fan of sick twisted and spine tingling as well.

On the scene note, a couple of bands come to mind; The swans, the sisters of mercy and joy division. I'm old fashioned, I guess, how retro...

That's the only Kim Gordon vocal I ever liked.

I definitely need to get more of his music....I was lucky to see him at a free outdoor concert in SF a couple years ago; he played w/ some east indian artists, as well as the guy who sings w/ Sting in Desert Rose. It was amazing - very trance-like....

Lark Sparrow - have to agree w/ you about Passion. That is an amazing soundtrack...

To mayberry and anelize - what type of music is Audioslave?
(Now that I know it's the name of an actual band! Slap my ass and call me clueless...)

Has anyone ever listened to Christian Death? OLD stuff...like REALLY old stuff...some 20-odd years ago... From their album Catastrophe Ballet, the song "When I Was Bed" is mildly haunting and intriguing; i would recommend anything from Catastrophe Ballet and Ashes...

Hi majka.

Yup, Chris Cornell of "Soundgarden" fame, if that means anything more. I actually don't care much for Audioslave; from what I've heard, I find they lack the musicality that I need to balance the harsh heavy rock. *shrugs* Just me.

my boyfriend says tool gets him agressive... *smile*

an addition to the Audioslave question....

cause i'm a fan :)

Chris Cornell, yes. Also some remaining members of Rage Against the Machine (for those of you who may be fans) sans Zack de la Rocha)

i love that CD...every track.
