Just to let you know, my brother was in an accident years ago, he was in a coma for over 12 days and now, married, has a new baby and a great job!
She will be fine! She is too strong to let anything get her down!
Lots of love and prayers,
C![]()

A little good news renews strength....

Excellent news!fairysong said:Got this note a bit back(replaced her name with SIS):
Early this morning SIS began to show signs of improvement. Theyhave been monituring her with the GCS it is a scale of 3-15. The higher the score the better and a score of 3 is considered brain dead. The scoring is based on 3 responses:eye, verbal and motor. The final score is the sum of the individual scores from each section.
Eye Opening Response
Spontaneous--open with blinking at baseline 4 points
Opens to verbal command, speech, or shout 3 points
Opens to pain, not applied to face 2 points
None 1 point
Verbal Response
Oriented 5 points
Confused conversation, but able to answer questions 4 points
Inappropriate responses, words discernible 3 points
Incomprehensible speech 2 points
None 1 point
Motor Response
Obeys commands for movement 6 points
Purposeful movement to painful stimulus 5 points
Withdraws from pain 4 points
Abnormal (spastic) flexion, decorticate posture 3 points
Extensor (rigid) response, decerebrate posture 2 points
None 1 point
Earlier during the week the sum of her points had only added up to a 4. She had no eye or verbal response and minimal motor response.
Last night for the first time she has responded to stimuli..."pain" by moving her arms away(not just spastic flexion). They have keep watch over her through the day and her motor response has remained pretty much the same. And an even better news is that she is now also verbally responding. Not in speach or words but more sounds. That is an improvement from before.
Her total score is 8 at the moment. Anything equal to 8 or less than is classified as Severe but she's boderline to moderate and I'm feeling hopeful.

My wife and I keep her in our thoughts. There is a candle lit for her, and it will remain lit until we know the outcome.
Those who are there are also in our thoughts. My wife and I know how hard it is to deal with this.
Cat

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, love.
