Unless I have missed it between this thread and the one I started, I don't think anyone has asked for a moderator on the GB to police subject matter. The policing wanted is timely enforcement of the website guildelines.

There is no gray area on what is personally information and what is a threat (#4 &#5). It either is or it isn't. The whole wishy-washy copout of whether something is a "credible" threat is bullshit. The only reason to not want these rules enforced actively is because a person has plans of violating them.

You asked me why I was against a GB Moderator, in light of the fact that I moderate another board, and I answered. If you don't like the answer, so be it.

Seems to me there are already Mod's here, so the whole question is null and void now, isn't it?

As of this morning that would seem to be the case.

I believe that would render the point moot, yes.

After all these pages of discussion, you mean it was all just theoretical?

Glad I didn't start reading until page 9.

No, not until BB's posts were edited this morning.

Is someone going to start a new thread to guess who the invisible mods are at the GB?

That is the correct way to reply to the Amish.

aha. ok.

...

as to there being mods on the GB already, i don't think that's necessarily true. maybe somebody could simply have PMed one of the mods, and gotten the posts removed? or maybe i'm just showing my ignorance of all things moderated again.

We need a poll!

Ms_bad_girl_69/3, can you fix us up one, please?

and what would it change if there was already invisible mods or not?

I dont think with the "hacking" that went out this last couple of days that an "identified" mod would be the right course of action to make anyway...

i am one of those infuriatingly democratic types. i never just post polls with people i choose on them. i always need a nominations thread first. are you sure you would want to go through that?

Now that you mention it, it was before dawn California time when your thread was edited so it it isn't likely that Laurel or Manu were awake yet.

Hmmmmmm.

oooo .. now to get to play, guess who the secret police are. This should send the paranoids into spasms.

I suppose it's impossible that they're not 9-5ers who would dare to be up that late.

Let me tell you, its not always a piece of cake to make everyone happy.

A piece of cake usually makes me happy.

....Come to think of it, Laurel did send me cake last year.:)

Let me tell you all a story...

Last year, Howard Stern set up a discussion board for his fans. It was also powered by vBulletin and extremely similar to Literotica as it featured a Political forum, Sports Bar, V.I.P. Lounge, an area for discussing his daily shows, etc.. He paid mods to keep an eye on the board at all times.

Everything ran smoothly until an onslaught of troublemakers turned the place upside down. They created alt after alt (imagine 50 Bob Bytchin's) and fucked with others on the board just for kicks. Those they terrorized, in turn, created alts to retaliate and it became somewhat of a Domino effect. Stern said his mods watched them closely (IP junk) and discovered how they were mostly unemployed men switching from alt to alt and spending approx. 18 hrs. a day posting. Eventually Stern had to close down the Registration part of his board and ban the troublemakers. Only previous, non-irksome members were able to post.

The 'Registration is Closed' went on for months. I know this because while he kept mentioning the problems on his board {over the radio} - I became frustrated 'cause I couldn't get in to see for myself.

When he finally lifted the ban and allowed new members - there was a 24 hr. waiting period (what Breakwall suggested for this site). I assume this was so his paid moderators could check IPs and whatnot. That or get the angry trolls to take a few deep breaths before creating even more offensive alts.

Didn't matter. The same banned troublemakers came back with a vengeance and screwed the board once again (via proxy servers?). Right before a week-long vacation, Howard pulled the plug on it all. Once he returned, he took calls and said the board was a huge 'effin headache and was affecting his personal life. Why? Because assholes were posting personal info about others and the mods couldn't keep up and would repeatedly call him and ask what to do. Howard, understandably, said enough was enough and killed it. Now he only has a little 'Vagina Corner' (I think his resurrection was so everyone could wish him January 13th B-Day wishes - the conceited bastard)

I don't know how to vote. The GB sorta does need invisible moderators. A few paid, non-posting entities with zero emotional attachment to this place to ensure that private info is zapped away most promptly. No names - nothing like that. This place has nearly a half million members! Trustworthy, invisible, non-Lit member mods (unlike Draaah) should be around, IMHO.

The GB does have moderators. That's why threads are occasionally deleted, usually for spam.

and yet, when some are not deleted for several hours or more, we are told the same line, "Laurel and Manu can't be online 24/7..." okay, then perhaps some invisible moderators should take care of shit while L&M are offline.

point blank.

Oh. Well, how about users, then?

Have you run into Beco yet, or that RawHumor alt?

I could send 'em to the cornfield.

Nope, I've taken care of the annoying users too.

It's just you, me and LadyG left on my board. It's great! ;)

i like the "if you dont like the way things are take it somewhere else" attitude...if only it could be true.

we could stand to use some tweaking around here. not much. i'd hate to have moderators like on some of the other forums and message boards i see but a little bit isnt a bad idea. free speech and all is a wonderful concept but no community can form and be successful adhering to only one law.idea or tenant.
