I think you missed my point. Perhaps I am being too skeptical, but I believe that once you appointed Mods to the GB, the number of reports would decline, because many posters would feel that the offending posts were the Mod's problem, not theirs.

No, I got it, just realize I didn't acknowledge in my post you are probably right. I'm just saying that if a mod was appointed for the GB, people would still need to report if they want to see any major dent in the anarchy.

What I could see hamstringing the 'report to mod' is if the appointed mod(s) didn't do the job or did go on a power trip.

Well as it stands I just put a ton on ignore and will be very cautious where I post.

I'd quickly tell you that you were a big fat fibber.

Her ta-ta's are much more magnificent.

I would like to point out that it wasn't I who killed this thread but Marxist with his titty talk.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Only cause we know it isn't honeylick's boobs--no tattoo.

I think it would dilute the number of good posters from the GB.
Heaven knows we don't need that! We've lost too many good ones already.

and I suspect a moded GB or moded GB Cafe would get some of them to come back. But it will depend on the mod and how he/she handles the responsibility.

In the other thread, you've been encouraging posters to make reports when they see violations.

Don't you think that having a moderator would actually lessen the incidence of poster's making reports? Wouldn't there likely be a "let the Mods deal with it" effect?

No, if people aren't happy with the way things are going on their board, I'm sure they will quickly click the Report Button.

The beauty of it is people can attack your words with out ever showing their faces.

Moderators on the GB? Why don't you just take away my Santorum shirts and prized erotica collection?

I met the Santorum's cat. Kurt Angle's too.

Purely coincidence, though.

Speaking from my experience on GLBT, I have to disagree. Dozens of people read there every day, but when spam is posted, only a small handful of posters will ever report it. I believe most just assume they can rely on the Mods to deal with it.

You didn't mess around with his cat did you? Santorum hates bestiality.

Ummm, no. We just happened to be using the same vet at the time.

Boring. I'm a big fan of the guy and was hoping I would get a juicy story.

Make something up!

It's been said a zillion times on this thread already, but I'd like to chime in with my NO vote.

I cannot see what possible positive purpose a mod would serve on this board.

honestly i really dont care either way.

the only kind of improving i think this place needs are those few nasty train wreck threads need to get deleted once they start including any personal information in them quicker.

I don't want to see mods like on other boards. The obnoxious posts are part of the charm of this place. If someone gets their feelings hurt, they belong elsewhere. But the damage extending past feelings and into personal lives is our of control.

The spilling of personal information has got to stop and has to be dealt with.

I'd like to know that there's someone around taking responsibility for posts that hurt more than feelings.

I voted yes for Mods -- with the proviso that they actually DO SOMETHING about the rules being broken that affect the safety and well being of REAL people's lives.

As long as the nutcases see that they have free reign to do whatever they want, be it hack accounts and post information, post chat logs, post real life names, addresses, phone numbers of members or directions & maps to their real life residences -- Lit will sink deeper into the sewer it's becoming ... and continue to attract more nutcases like a magnet. Any other site wouldn't tolerate this behavior and compromise the safety of its general population.

Hiding behind the banner of Free Speech does not absolve anyone of their responsibilities of decency toward their fellow humans.

The GB doesn't need a Mod.

I have PMed Laurel proposing the creation of a new general interest board with a moderator. If anyone else thinks that a good idea then I suggest you do the same.

I am opposed to creating a new board. I don't think it's a coincidence that the quality of discourse on the GB has declined while Lit becomes increasingly divided into new boards.

The quality of discourse on the GB has been declining since its inception. Everyone considers their time the best time but I think that has more to do with the community constantly growing than anything else.

The quality has diminshed much faster since the general population has seen a lack of excitement in the administrators toward doing anything about serious breaches of the few rules here.

In theory, I agree with you.

It's sort of like suburbia. You lose out when people start building fences and gates around their communities to keep out the 'undesireables'.
