I figure anyone would be welcome who is willing to have a mod to enforce the guidelines if someone has a problem with self-restraint.

I think you'd make a great mod. Seriously.

I am liking the GB cafe type thing. After spending a year in the freeforall, I could go for having a quieter GB niche to hang out in from time to time.

Why not just go to the HT cafe?

Just a lively board with no alts, dire personal threats, personal info postings, or attempted board takeovers, yes?

If so, I agree.

I think there is a lot of misconception about what a mod can and cannot do with vB.

Many GB people post there.

The addition of a GB cafe would also impact the GB itself.

That fairly much sums it up. I don't want to have to wade through crap to get to the drivel which is fun.

what impact do you see it having on the GB?

Exactlyyyy~

I voted No.

Though, I do think it would be nice to get rid of these people who "hack" peoples accounts.

Also, these people that spread your rl info around.. They can only do this because you're letting you're rl info be known. Mods can't help you with your big mouths.

So i'm sticking with no.

I think it would dilute the number of good posters from the GB.

I think that has already happend with the influx of troll like users.

So are you saying you would not post in a moded GB just because it is moded? Granted it would depend on who the mod was on how things would be addressed, but all I'm looking for at this point is somewhere that there is enough mod presence to keeps GL#4 & #5 enforced so the frivolous trolling and harrassment doesn't have to be accepted as the price to pay to participate.

In the other thread, you've been encouraging posters to make reports when they see violations.

Don't you think that having a moderator would actually lessen the incidence of poster's making reports? Wouldn't there likely be a "let the Mods deal with it" effect?

Just curious, with the events of the last few months, how many would like to see the GB have moderators?

If so, should their identities be public knowledge or should they be anonymous Mod's?

I say No to having mods. The alts would just keep re-registering under new names. It's easier just to not reply in their threads and put them on ignore. Since it's attention that they are seeking....If they don't get any, then they'll most likely take their pathetic selves somewhere else where they can get some.

*memo.... they aren't getting "any"...hence, thier lame jr high attempts at humor here, at the expense of others*

Honestly, I don't know, but in general I do not like the idea of it and chances are, I would post less or perhaps not at all.

I'm really not sure.

When you hit "Report this post to a Moderator" here, where does it go?

To the site administators, presumably Laurel and Manu, although I can't say for sure that they don't have helpers who deal with some of it.

Unfortunately, I don't think that would deter them Queersetti :(

I liked the suggestion of having people help Manu and Laurel wade through the crap that's reported. Only allowing them the control to delete the personal info and posted pm's. Really limiting how much "power" they have and being able to remove that stuff as soon as possible.

Sometimes it's left up for far too long, through no fault of theirs.

I would expect, just because of the volume of posts, moded or unmoded, it will be up to the people in the GB to report posts if they want to see the guidelines followed. A mod cannot be everywhere and will not see everything. What I'd expect from having mods would be a more timely action when a report is made.

Kinda like having a GB neighborhood watch. Someone has to be willing to call the cops or nothing gets done.

From now on I will call you Shelly.

Or was that Sue?

Gretchen.

I wanna see you do that with both boobs stuffed in your mouth.

Er, by you I mean your av lady.

Or you.

Just to make a clarification, moderators at Lit have no power to delete anything. Offending posts are moved to an invisible forum, so that if word gets to Laurel that a moderator has been a little bit too trigger-happy, the situation can be reversed.

which is why I like the idea of a GB cafe with mod. those who just can't deal with the idea of having a cop looking over their shoulder can stay in the freeforall. Those who would like some more law&order can spend our posting time where the guidelines have some teeth. I'm sure there would be subjects in the freeforall which I'd still take part in, but it would be nice to have someplace where the bandwidth doesn't feel wasted.

If the HT Cafe is primarily a moded GB, I likely will find myself spending more time there instead of in the anarchy.

I think you missed my point. Perhaps I am being too skeptical, but I believe that once you appointed Mods to the GB, the number of reports would decline, because many posters would feel that the offending posts were the Mod's problem, not theirs.

It is. And you get Lady G as your mod. Have fun. Write often.
