Nope. I'm not into the anonymous censorship it seems to have fostered on other boards.

I was just curious as to how many people thought it a good idea.
I'm with Pink Orchid though..once it goes beyond "board stuff", there has to be some type of intervention.

BUT, having said that, and here's where I get lynched...

We are responsible for what info is available out there, about us. I

That's how I'd see a moderator on the GB, as a policer of those who break the rules with personal stuff. Damn tough job though as I see it.

There would need to be more than one. If the standing GB were to be moderated there would to be a mod available 24/7 to be effective.

I voted no.

For one thing, nobody identified the problems that the moderator would be here to help resolve

Let's start with the hacking of accounts. First off, we don't know whether or not the accounts even were hacked or if someone guessed the passwords. Even assuming that the accounts were hacked, what would a moderator do about it? Report it to Laurel? Each of us can do that as well by simply clicking the report post button.

So even if we have a moderator on the GB, all they are going to do is report posts to laurel. I'm not sure whether or not there is the ability in the vBulletin software to ban someone like OBLITERATOR and even if there is, it doesn't seem like Laurel wants to ban users as Hanns is still here. So a moderator isn't going to solve that.

What else would they be here to solve? Threats? The vast majority of the threats here are jokes more than anything else. All a moderator will be able to do is remove that post, not ban the user unless Laurel decides to change her policies for running this website. Again, a moderator won't solve the problem.

What else? Spam threads like the religious ones? Are they really such a big deal that we need a moderator to remove them immediately from the board? This place will always get spam. It's easy enough to simply ignore the one spam thread a day we get without adding a level of oversight to the board.

To me, there isn't one good reason to have this board moderated and I think it will lead to a lot more problems than it will solve.

In a gruff Mexican accent "moderators, moderators we don't need no stinken moderators"

I'd only like to see a mod for the GB IF all they would do is promptly take off personal info. That's pretty much the only thing that really needs to be dealt with. I'd also love to see tougher restrictions and possible bans ont hose who do post personal infor (as in actual info tha can impact or allow someone to impact someone's real life).

Tiggs didn't kill herself did she? I remember talking to her a few times because she was one of the few litsters that lived in Omaha. I swear I saw her on the boards not long ago.

What exactly do the mods do on the other boards? How do they decide what posts to remove? How do they deal with obnoxious posters? Would having them on the GB really make a difference?

I would agree there would have to be mod coverage 24/7 for complete control of the board.

I dunno. I have done moderator work on other boards, and it was a tough job.

Actually, no, because the mods would end up being from the same group of people that the other mods were chosen from, and we all know that the mods are the least objective people on the boards. In fact, they stir shit here as well.

If mods are even being discussed because of all the personal info being out there, then I think it's up to the site owners to take care of that sort of thing.

I vote no on mods.

Posts that break the stated rules should be removed.

I voted yes...to be limited though to killing off the trolls who spray paint a thread with 100 lines of copy/paste of three or four words, expressly to clutter up a thread, like this morning. Or trolls who create an account that makes multiple posts for the express purpose of cluttering up the board. (That happened one Saturday a couple of weeks ago.) Or trolls who break into someone's account and hijack their membership, a la QuickDuck on Sunday.

I don't mind trolls who post the usual crap, the iggy button works well for those, it's the ones who just want to disrupt everyday life that I'd like a moderator to blast into a higher orbit.

I don't even mind alts so much...I just wish there was a way to identify them: "This person has multiple accounts," so we'd know who's an alt and who is a legit newbie.

When posts are reported to the Mod, check the complaint, make sure it's legit and either move the post to the appropriate forum/edit out personal info/ or move it completely off the board.

Basically make sure the board guidelines are followed. (not necessarily a popular thing , trust me on that one ;) )

Moving posts is a judgement call and no one gets it right every time. You have to learn that no matter how stomach crawling or vomit inducing a post may be, if it doesn't break the rules....dont touch it :D

Count to 500 before replying to O.P's (obnoxious posters). Mod's are not supposed to have any feelings or opinions (makes ya biased, don't ya know)

Mostly, just sit back until needed. :)

So if the mods stick to these guidelines, it shouldn't be too hard to swallow. (their presence on the boards)

Just curious, with the events of the last few months, how many would like to see the GB have moderators?

If so, should their identities be public knowledge or should they be anonymous Mod's?
what events?

btw, i voted no, and i'm among those who have been censored. (and it was fucking stupid!)

It'd be pretty damn difficult to mod the GB. I don't think any threads should be moved anywhere else, nor should we have standards here that the other modded forums have. The GB is a free for all, and that's the charm of the joint. It would take more than one person to be able to step up and do this, and they would have to be honorable posters who have been here long enough to know the flow. I think it would be pretty damn near impossible to find someone who would be appropriate for that job. They'd catch a shit load of flack and most would prbably get a huge ego just by being in that position. Most posters on here are unfit for that position, and it's probably better left in the hands of Laurel as it is.

See, what it all boils down to is repeat offenders who have not been banned. mods shouldn't have the power to ban, not on a site as huge as this. It's all very tricky and sticky, and true assholes really can't be banned. There is always a way around it.

Again, the only reason I would see for a GB mod would be for quick deletion of personal info, and that's it. I've seen times it'd be really handy to be able to PM someone who is usually here to get info deleted like that before too many peple see it. Laurel and Manu have ALOT on their plates and often times the info is viewed by 100+ people before they can get time to get to it.

I bet the people who have voted yes have never been on the business end of a moderator.
I have been... That's exactly why I voted 'NO'.
