I don't know. You have to ask Laurel. I'm puzzled. I may have to come up with something new. I'll take suggestions.

If I had a nickel for every time I've seen a forum decapitate, maim, quarter, cut, castrate, and otherwise mutilate their users by removing their avatars, I'd have two nickels.

Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that I saw this happen twice.

E: I think people lost more than just their heads now that @Five_Inch_Heels is also avatarless.

E2: I'm adding castrate because @Comshaw and @XerXesXu are also mutilated.

I've noticed something else missing. There used to be a little purple mark on the OP avatar in the thread listing that indicated I've posted in that thread. That mark doesn't show up any more.

Forum avatars are serve from a different server than those on the story side, and also different than the forum itself.

Since the latter is obviously some kind of caching CDN, I'm guessing either some of the cached avatars reached their expiration time there (was it a long time since you last changed your avatars?), or maybe the cache reached capacity and needs to have its configuration fixed or something to accommodate more entries.
