Would you ever wear a mink coat? Or are they only for old, rich women?

There is a gorgeous black mink coat on sale at Marshall Fields in today's sales advertisement. I'm not buying it, but it made me wonder who would buy it. Maybe someday I will, when I hope to be an old, rich woman. :D

nah i am a leather jacket kinda guy...never wore mink although i think people would look at me funny if i did!;)

animal fur is a no no

I should have known you'd be the first to post that. :)

I have a winter jacket with real fir trim. Real fur isn't an issue for me, in small quantities anyway.

Yeah, it's like a status symbol anyway. Why would you want one?

Buy a computer and digital camera instead.

Mink is such a throwback material. One cannot wear it without thinking of a Gabor sister or that crazy loon that owns the Rams.

Not cool, Chey.

Sounds like something to wear inside out and Naked. Then you can flash the PITA wackos and feel good doing it!

Why? Because I live in a deep freeze for about 6 months out of the year and natural fur is WARM.

The cost of a full length mink coat though would cover at least two computers and digital cameras. Maybe 3!

So is down. In fact, it's way warmer. And it's not too expensive, even if it's from Eddie Bauer. They have a store at Mayfair, I think.

But when I'm old and rich I figure I won't care what people think about what I remind them of. :)

I also laugh at all the women in Chicago shopping in their full length minks. Maybe when I get to the point where I don't mind people like me laughing, I'll buy one. On the other hand, reminding someone of a Gabor sister may not be such a bad thing...

i promise i haven't chucked animal blood over anyone for wearing fur :)

Fur is warm. My mother gave me one of her furs. It's a full length mink. I'd never wear it, the style isn't me, but I'm thinking of having it cut down into a cute bomber jacket.

Down is ugly as sin. And I was just at that store yesterday- you weren't spying on me, were you? ;)

1. Fur is a 100% natural material from which to make the warmest of outer garments.

2. Compared to other materials used in coat-making, less harm to the environment is caused by using fur and the resource is both sustainable and renewable. Belching textile mills using underwaged and underaged workers are an obscenity by comparison.

3. Harvesting fur from animals raised for the purpose is no more unethical than growing corn; a living thing is a living thing.

4. Mink are killed far more responsibly in captivity than in the wild by man or other predators.

5. A woman in a fur coat, heels, stockings, red lipstick, diamonds and perfume is one of the sexiest visions on the planet. The younger, the better.

6. Anti-fur lobbyists are like Saab drivers...ever see a happy one?

Be happy. Be sexy. Be a real woman.

Buy the fur.

Thank you for your support.

one year i bought my wife a Tibetan lamb fur coat....my wife stayed rather warm but the poor lamb freezing in the mountains of tibet...how could i be so cruel!;)

I guess. I just can't imagine anyone silly enough to buy a fur not worried about the world's opinion.

killing an animal just to look good doesn't seem right to me

Another issue with the fur- I think it screams "rob me" to the thugs of the world.

Fur is not exactly attractive. Hence the laughter mentioned all over this thread.

You don't survive a deep freeze with fashion in mind, you know.

Wrong on that point- get your newspaper out and look at the coat I'm talking about. I think it is beautiful. :)
