Minimum wage activists call tipping racist

What does race have to do with it? I thought it was just a natter of class.

Should you tip only white waiters then, in order to show that you aren't racist?

I like tipping.

;) ;)

Leaving two pennies is the perfect way to tell your waiter/waitress that their service was shitty...

PS - I don't call them "servers," that's too close to indentured servitude, which is what you get at the Mexican restaurant.

No, the point here is to replace tips with "a living wage."

They've done that is some cities here in the US, the results are not pretty.

You see, in the US, we don't do the three-hour meal as a way of life. We have too much to get done. We want our food fast, we want it now, and we want it with a fucking smile, politeness, and attention to our immediate needs.

You've obviously never gone to dinner with an old fashioned Italian family. I an grow a beard while these people eat.

I don't know much about economics, but tipping always makes me feel awkward.
- I'm a good tipper, and I'm used to and tipping even in countries where it's not customary. But it always makes me feel a bit burgeoise as if it places me in an artificial position of superiority. And it's not fair for those who "work for tips" either, to have their livelihood depend on the benevolence of all sorts of assholes.

Why can't they just give them decent salaries instead? And you only tip them as a bonus, or if the services are poor the customer would just complain. It works over here, the quality of services are still very good.

RACE is now a general insult because no one has a clue what racism was 60 years ago. It meant immediate disqualification for most activities and positions, in Britain the equivalents are no regiment, no school, no family, etc.

In 1870 whites here became blacks faster than Democrat boys become girls nowadays, because whites lost civil rights at the end of the civil war. So my kin became tranny niggers, no operation required. We were blonde blue eyed Swiss but always felt we were niggers, like the Rachel lady.

Just remember, as a person who has worked for tips...

;)

The people you tip also tip.

Yeah, they sit back, savor their food and wine, and actually talk to each other. What a concept.

Some people use a shovel.

Yes, they stiff their waiter/waitress by not letting the table churn...

;) ;)

... so if they tip the customary 15%, then they are actually giving the poor person who was assigned their table a pay cut. I don't use a shovel, I enjoy the food and I converse, but again, having waited tables, I am sensitive to the needs of the wait staff (and the families that depend on their earnings).

I've always seen tipping as a method of either improving or discouraging the behavior and performance of people. It's a small gesture that sends a big message.

I see it as a reward to keep the good people at my table side whilst encouraging those who just aren't into service to consider a vocational change.

I found tipping to be very sexist.

Women are the worst tippers. The larger the group, the more they try to stiff you. After a while, I stopped trying to please them, because nothing ever will. You see a group of them enter and you start silently praying, not my table, not my table, not my...,

This may sound strange but I've always thought it a duty to tip good service. I can't remember when I haven't.

I assume that my attitude is shaped by being the rational sex. :D ;) ;)

Some people might not be able to afford it and some are either plain selfish or unaware of the economic role they play in promoting good service in the economy.

That's one of my personal rules.

If you cannot afford the tip, you cannot afford the meal so eat and home and add a little something to your rainy day fund and eventually, sooner, rather than later, you will be able to afford the tip.

I even tip the ladies who bring the free drinks in Vegas. It doesn't really seem to work, but it makes me feel like I am at least keeping them out of the brothel business...

:D :D :nana:
