Is anyone planning on watching the movie?
I am a huge fan of the show. Don Johnson in his heyday & Philip Michael Thomas with those eyes.....

I think I might go. It is the same director who did Heat(loved it) & Collateral. It might be good, it might suck. Either way...Colin Farrell with no shirt? I'm in.

if they did it is a late-eighties period piece it would be interesting. Now its just another cop movie.

I was kinda thinking the same thing, but wouldn't that be a little too Starsky & Hutch?

Now I'm gonna have to go find my white jacket and peach shirt.

it doesnt have to be campy. Have you seen Blow with Johnny Depp? It was totally seventies, and it worked great.

Now you're onto something. I loved that movie.

hey..thats true

think about it...make it eighties, make it edgy. I mean, the show was pretty edgy for its time. Looking back on it now, we remember pink shirts and wicker shoes, but we forget it was artsy and dark and really delved into the underbelly of drug abuse and trafficking.

Now with all the CSIs and Law and Orders, we're kind of desensitized...

One of my all time favorite television shows.

I am sure I'll be disapointed but I'll go to the movie.

There's only one Sonny.. doubt I'll see the movie until it's on cable
Well, I should have said I am only going if it is at the local theater where matinees cost four bucks and primetime is six....with all the goodies cheap as well. I can't remember the last movie I watched at a large chain movie joint.
I'm too damn cheap & too few GOOD movies.

You know sweets.. your av has always reminded me of the Vice. I think it's the colors.

I do have a fondness for pastels & neons.... ;)

Movie looks pretty decent. I wasn't a huge fan of the original TV show but I would watch it sometimes. I was more of a KnightRider fan. Yes, you can laugh at me now.

Wondering if anyone else got a chance to see the movie today.

It's a frenetic scene, but if you pay real close attention you'll notice me in a few shots in the club scene in the beginning of the movie.

Here's a picture of me for those of you too lazy to check out my pic thread.

I have lots of good stories about the cast, crew and film for any interested.

how exactly was it artsy? Don Johnsons stubble (and pet gator) and the metrosexual attire made the show slightly cheesy.

One of the reasons the show was so popular was because it did three things that are now taken for granted...

It incorporated music heavily into the scenes, and not just instrumental music, actual cutting edge music.

It used movie-style camera angles and complex pan and crane shots. Since the beginning of tv, shows were shot to be viewed on 12 inch screens, but Michael Mann realized that although television screens had gotten a LOT bigger, the way shows were filmed hadn't adapted. So he filmed Miami Vice as if it were a movie, and in that way he incorporated a lot more artistic lattitude into the scenes.

It didn't take the audience for granted and the plots were much more sophisticated. This was a trend first started with shows like Hill St Blues and St. Elsewhere, but Vice took it to a much different level.
