Menstrual Hut

Cheyenne -- I'm going to break down, spend the $40.00 (or so) and buy a Keeper. Heck, it just may work :)

Ah, a thread from the past! I hope you got the Keeper and like it.

My turn to whine a bit, when I usually don't. The Keeper works great for a "real" period but it's not really meant for when you are just spotting and there if no real heavy flow. I'm not sure what the problem is but I've been spotting now for about 2 weeks and it is driving me crazy! I'm used to 3 days or so with the Keeper and being done with it.

I have a new appreciation for how annoyed the women must feel who go through this spotting crap all the time.

My right boob hurts...just the right one.

But no cramps- gotta love the pill.

Maybe I'll be able to be synchronized with la luna, once again.

I'm 44 years old, 45 in October. This year my periods have been all over the place, the result of a huge amount of personal stress. Example:
1 Jan-18 Jan = 18 days
18 Jan - 7 Feb = 20 days
7 Feb - 7 April = 59 days
7 April - 13 May = 35 days
13 May - 26 June =44 days

I used to be on a 21 day cycle, after I got my tubes tied and went off the pill 4 years ago. I've been to the doctor and he suspects a hyperproliferative endometrium (whew!) which basically means I have an excess of some pituitary hormone caused by the stress and my uterine lining is thickened but not sloughing off properly. My last period even though it was 44 days since the one before was lighter than normal but seemed to last longer (about 10 days as opposed to 5 or 6 normally). The lining keeps building up each month regardless, which has potential for cancer in the future, which is why he wants me to go for an ultrasound to see what's going on. He also wants to check me for polycystic ovarian syndrome, seeing my right ovary was cystic when they did the tubal ligation......

I don't mind having a couple of months between periods though, beats having 2 weeks with no bleeding in between! He checked my hormone levels and I am not menopausal which is what I thought was happening, so hopefully the ultrasound will give some answers. He will probably put me back on the pill for a few months, to regulate my cycles again.......

I just thought I should hold the door to the hut open for cheesysiouxsie ;)

Bandit --

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. However, I'm 25. Was on BCP from the time I was 18, just went off them in Feb. 2003. For the Feb, Mar & Apr cycles I was 36 days and 50 days from April-June and so far am on day 48 wiht no period in sight. Have taken 2 pg tests, both negative... Need to go see the doc.

OK, I finally broke down and ordered the Keeper. Except they've rebranded it - it's now called the The DivaCup. I prefer the new name; the old one was too close to those fanatical Promise Keepers.

I should have ordered it months ago. Any chance I'll get the knack in a month? I'd like to take it with me on my trip.

Gah......got my period Sunday night......32 days since the last one (so cycles getting closer together - maybe) but it's quite heavy with clots so I am doing the super-tampon-with-pad-backup thing. This is the first decent period I've had in 6 months so have to expect it I suppose.....grrrrr  I should have known it was on its way when my boobs were sore for the preceding 10 days.....I don't usually get that!

The scan showed nothing abnormal, uterus is slightly enlarged but no fibroids or large ovarian cysts (there were small ones but they were in the normal range). I am going back to the doctor next week (he's been away on holiday) so no doubt he will put me on the pill to get my cycles back on an even keel again. I'm lucky in that I don't get cramps, but I woke on Monday morning with a sick headache which lasted for a few hours. Damn hormones......

Riding the cotton pony. ::sighs::

Is the book The Red Tent still being passed around? Is there anyway it can be eventually sent my way...passed around 3 other hands on my campus then by me sent back to anyother lovely lady here at lit?

I also reconmend The Vagina Monologues, skits, movies, webpages...

It appears the prices are dropping due to competition!

The place in Canada that I ordered from (dark color Keeper vs. light color) still calls it the Keeper, but it is cheaper than it was a few years ago!

You might be talented and get the hang of it in a month. It took me a few months to actually like it. I'd take the Keeper on your trip but I'd also take your "regular" supplies just in case you get frustrated with it.

It seems as if there's a few different brands out there.

Chey, I learned about the keeper from the site you listed above, but when I ordered it, I did so from www.thekeeper.com. Both of those site's product is made from natural gum rubber.

Misch, I looked up www.divacup.com, and it certainly looks the same, but it's made out of hypo-allergenic sillicon.

Interesting.

Eaxh month, about this time, I thank my lucky stars for my Keeper. I'm never going back to pads and tampons.

It may have something to do with patents? I think my Keeper had "patent pending" on it. I'd have to look. I thought it originated in Canada and maybe another company used the same idea in the US?

Yes, mine is the natural rubber. It is supposed to last 10 years. I wonder what the hypo-allergenic one is supposed to do, if different?

Ooooookay it's now Saturday morning and no sign of letting up yet......has anyone else had this happen? I'm going through about 5-6 super tampons a day, still passing clots and having to wear a pad as well. No cramps, that's one good thing I suppose......but 5 days of this is getting a bit much.....:(
