Actually, the article that I've referenced there is a systematic review. This type of article analyses and critiques all the available evidence on a given topic. Given that it is published in a highly respected, peer-reviewed journal I would argue that its findings can be considered valid.
That said, I think you have hit the nail on the head when you say it's not something that people should worry about.
The reason the British Journal of Urology has published such comprehensive clinical research on the topic is because so many men go to see their doctors worried about the size or appearance of their genitalia. It is a shame that this should be a source of so much unhappiness and anxiety. But partly the concerns that men have about their size comes from unrealistic expectations of what is normal. This is largely driven by what they see in porn and by what other men or women boast about.
My aim in sharing with the forum what the clinical research has to say on the issue was to bring a bit of balance to discussions. Often, the misconceptions about what is 'normal' only help to drive some men's anxieties.
But for me, I'm with you on this - I don't think it's something worth worrying about.
An excellent source of information...the BJU.
Agreed, people have become too obsessed with size, be it breast or penises.
Fantasy has too much power over our self esteem. I have noticed, however, that there seems to be an increase of adult material where the participants are average, everyday folks. These are not the amateur videos found on line but the professional material.
Could it be that the industry has discovered a new consumer market...people who prefer reality to fantasy?
