Memory Loss??

I am new here - First post, actually. I'm on my way over to introduce myself but I had a question that was triggered by another thread.

How common is it for subs to not remember the really painful parts of things. Think punishment for some transgression (in my case, several serious sessions with her belt).

I remember the pleasurable stuff, even stuff that hurt but ended up being pleasurable. I can not recall the punishments that I have received. I know they happened because she reminded me but can't remember the details. Does this happen to anyone else? What gives?

I have a sort of pain amnesia but play pain I tend to remember in a fuzzy way.

This makes total sense. I have seen these studies as well.

If pain is too severe it tends to desenities the body and mind which defeats the purpose of it. Pain should start out mild and the build to a climax with time. Often times it is the expectation of pain that is worse then the real thing.

Most of my pain experiences have been with martial arts--but at the end of a session I can walk out with what ends up being black and blue dinner plate size bruises but I don't remember getting hit (usually) and the pain is not what I remember in the long run.

Adrenaline and other endorphins do a lovely job of turning what would be excruciating agony (coming into it cold) into a shout of "good!", a smile and a warm feeling on my leg or arm or what have you.

I've been hit cold and had it hurt much, much more than being hit "hot" even when the blow strength was lighter. Pain is all I remember from the cold experiences.

If I zone out into subspace I'm very hazy about what has happened. Master does not indulge this all that frequently because I become virtually useless during these times. There are times during hard play when I have disconnected from the pain and feel it less acutely but my memory isn't affected. When it comes to genuine punishment, I am firmly in the here and now and remember every detail.

Master has been known to push subspace with my until I'm in a kind of hypnotized state. This is a very surreal thing that's hard to explain but I don't recall a great deal of what's happened.

If he later talks about things that I'm fuzzy on they often fall back into my head but it varies.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their responses. There were really helpful!

It is strange to have very little recollection of things that happen to me. It makes me wonder what I am missing. Would not want to miss anything!
