Not a How-To, but you people are more ... helpful... than other boards I frequent.

Last night, I had the worst migraine of my life. It came on so fast, I couldn't medicate it (normally I can catch it before it gets bad), and it landed me in a dark room with a heat pack on my neck, cool compress on my forehead, earplugs in, a blanket over my face, and bawling my eyes out.

Today, I went to work, the headache had gone... but... when I put my glasses on to begin work, I noticed that my vision was MUCH poorer than yesterday. I could still read and whatnot, but even with the glasses, my eyes were blurry.

Is this something I should be worried about?

I'm so sorry you had that episode last night. That sounds absolutely hideous. Now I don't have much experience with migraines - but anything that seemingly affected my vision overnight - I would definitely be in the doctor's office patiently waiting. Just to be on the safe side, ya know? Of course it could be temporary - but personally, I just don't take chances with my body anymore. Let us know how everything turns out. :rose:

Hi there

I have the occasional migrane, now that I know the signs I can self-medicate before the headache comes and avoid it 99% of the time. My symptoms include blurry vision, tingling and numbness down one side of my body.

Yes, blurry vision the next day after the headache is gone would worry me. I'd get your butt to the Dr if I was you.

Edited to add:

I read your post again and registered that you wear glasses. I also wear glasses, and the mostly the only time I get migranes is when my lens prescription needs changing. Perhaps a visit to the optometrist?

These glasses are less than a year old... I'd hate to think my vision is deteriorating that fast... and yesterday, my vision was FINE with my glasses.

I can tell when I'm getting a migraine, too, normally, and medicate before it hits, to avoid it. Last night, there were no warnings. I was also nauseated last night, which I've never had with a migraine.

The soonest I can see my doctor is Monday, because he keeps the stupidest hours ever... maybe I should go to a clinic?

Migraines can be an increased risk factor for strokes, with a change in vision I would seek medical advice sooner rather than wait till Monday next.

I agree.

With the symptoms and suddeness you are describing don't wait to get checked out. It could just be after effects of a nastier migrane than you've experienced before, or it could be something like a small bleed in your brain which is affecting your vision. You have to be so careful with neurological stuff.

I'm on hold, on the BC Nurse's Health Hotline. I'm gonna tell her what's up, and hear what she has to say, about waiting for a clinic tomorrow, or going to the ER tonight.

Agreed. Anything out of the norm should definitely be explored sooner rather than later, especially in a case like this.

It may very well be nothing, but it's better to have a lighter wallet and peace of mind than take the chance that you'll miss catching a potential problem early.

Please keep us posted! :rose:

seek help?

i would advise seeing a docter. just to be on the safe side.

although it could be nothing more than your eyes being slightly dried out from extensive crying, Any extensive sudden pain to the head which in turn causes an extream shift in vision is usualy a precursor of a problem. Very few things can naturally shift such a change in the ocptical lobe of the brain so suddenly or drasticly. and the things that can, are very serious.

hope your alright...

One of the symptoms of my migraines is blurred and blocked out vision.

The pain itself can go away but the migraine can still have symptoms there.

I get blurry vision before a migraine but I am sure it is possible to have it after.

A doctor looking into it is a good idea.

Any update Ms.L? This worries me too. I take no chances with any of my senses, they're far too precious. :rose:

I get a lot of migraines and they run in my family. I have never had the vision problem thing, that far away. I have the same kind of thing, where if I can get on it, I can avoid it, but occasionally one gets there to quick.

I think the blurry vision that long after would be something to check.

There was a comment made on migraines, and strokes. A couple of years ago, I was getting tons of the damn headaches. I went to the doctor, and found my blood pressure was high enough to need meds. That was a first for me. And an EKG showed I had some serious stress problems related due to the high pressure. So I got on meds, and noted, besides my BP going down, I didn't have a migraine, or really even a headache for months. So I believe there is something to that. Occasionally now, when there is a lapse in my prescription, I still get headaches way easier. But the lingering vision thing, I dont know. But your checking it out so let us know.

Holy crap, migraines suck soooo bad. I haven't really had many for awhile, but last semester I was getting one of those killer ones at least once a week...puking, the whole horrible deal...

I think you should go to the doctor if your vision continues to be fucked up. They might want you to do something ridiculously expensive though...like an MRI. I had to get one and no brain tumors, surprise, surprise...but it made me feel better. Reassured. Just get checked out.

I've just come back from the ER.

Last night, I had the worst migraine I've ever had. Knocks any pain I've ever felt out of the ballpark.

Let's remind you all:

4 car accidents

1 slipped disk

71 bee stings (all in one day)

This was like all of it combined. Today, when I woke up, it was gone, but my vision was blurry. Tonight, I started getting another headache, medicated, and then went to the ER.

Good news: Nothing imminently majorly wrong with me. They gave me a shot of painkiller in the ass and sent me home.

Bad news: I'm on a strict watch for certain neurological symptoms. The Dr thinks I might have an anneurism (sp?) in my brain. If the symptoms show up, they'll have to do a spinal tap to see if there's blood in the fluid. If there is, then we'll go from there. He's worried. I hate it when Doctors are worried.

I'm off to have soup and go to bed. I have to work tomorrow.

What kind of fucking nuthead doctor would tell someone they think they might have an anneurism and send them home with no MRI or anything.... What a nut job.

People do die from those. Geeezus, incapable people irritate me

I thought the same thing. Seems like they would at least keep her there to keep any eye on her. "Here, take this, go home and come back if you start to feel like you may have an anneurism." Duh.

Watch for symptoms.

Well DUH

The headache and the blurred vision???

If doctors are worried...they don't send you home.

Chances are I don't have one. He said that there was a chance... maybe. He said that because I'm there a day later, with nothing worse than blurry vision and another headache, I should be fine. He tested my reflexes, and a few other neurological things, and they were fine.

I'm calling my doc in the morning to set up an MRI.

No, DIFFERENT symptoms, very specific ones:

DOUBLE vision
lack of balance
numbness/tingling on one side of the body
extreme nausea
major stiffness in the neck.

If you happen to be bleeding in your brain, you may not wake up in the morning to call your doc.

I have known people who were brain dead within an hour of the headache onset.

Well Geez, if there is a chance you have an annurism, why would they send you home.

Either he is a quack, or you are embellishing a bit

Chance. Small chance. But it's a chance. He thinks I'm okay, despite that chance. I don't have a family history, I don't have the neurological symptoms that generally bespeak an anneurism, I just had a wicked headache that could be benign, or could be saying something.

I'm quite satisfied with what he told me, all things considered.

BUT he let you goo home with a possible brain bleed.
