Mary Lou Retton, Olympic champion, lives a nice life in a Houston suburb. She owns a two million dollar home, free and clear.
She espouses a Libertarian philosophy. As such, she saw no need for "health insurance", becoz she had cash, y'know? Shades of AJ!

Wellllll....just like AJ (whose 5 figure net worth was wiped out by a bout of hospitalization for "new moania" back in 2019), Mary Lou has rung up an extraordinary hospital bill for eight solid days in an induced coma on a ventilator in a Houston ICU. Seems Mary Lou came down with a rare form of pneumonia. Some doctors are saying it is eosinophilic pneumonia, which is a gruesome way to die (think of all those air sacs in your lungs popping like that packing bubble stuff you get at the post office).

Her libertarian daughters immediately sprung into action! Touch Savings? Not only no, but HELL NO! Get a mortgage secured by the Retton Mansion? oh, no to that too! They started a GoFundMe page on one of the sketchier GoFundMe clone sites (GoFundMe somehow takes a cut?) and Murica is responding! Ask for 50 grand, get $375,000! Wooo comma hooo!

Get well soon Mary Lou!

I saw part of a headline about this the other day. When I say the bit about asking for donations, I stopped reading and went to something important.

Don’t be jelly that no one would give if you were dying.

That GoFundMe’s are an option for people with medical bills is cray-cray.

Republican politicians have no solutions and thus their supporters are forced into saying dumb, deflecting things.

Ventilators were fatal for many people diagnosed with covid.
huh? where did you get this idea from?
The explanation I saw previously is the patients could not expel fluid. This article says ventilators stretch the lungs beyond safe limits. Her kids may be thinking about their inheritance.
Being on a vent is never a good option. The longer you're not breathing under your own "power" the more damage occurs. Been known for decades, but beats the iron lung.

Wow...a gold medal is only worth 350k ? Seems cheap. She should have had an Only Fans site like the chick from LSU

What an angry, nasty post. You just ruined whatever facade you thought you had going for you.

It was only a matter of time. You're too dumb to do this right. 😘

She lands in the hospital and sticks it to America! 🇺🇸

…just like Ayn Rand, except that Ayn was broke at the end of her life. ✅

Parents who push or let their kids do gymnastics could be prosecuted for child abuse. It's a brutal life of frequent injuries and severe diet restrictions. Height is a disadvantage, so they may take drugs to stop growing for a career that quickly ends. Olympic gymnasts are always adolescents because adults heal too slowly to compete at that level.

Where did they get that idea from? How about case after case after case of people with covid being put on a ventilator and then dying. The ventilators did not work in too many cases, so much so that many came to realize that it was a death sentence.

Sorry Mary Lou, not a nickel from me. You can easily finance your medical care with the assets you have. Further, you would never give a penny to an average paisano like me if I needed help.

Sweet Babby Jesus what an absolutely ignorant hot take. even for you.

Covid patients on ventilators experience a mortality rate of 50 to 97% according to a study I just looked up on the Internet. A ventilator is the equivalent of a "Hail Mary" pass for Covid patients in hospitals.

Exactly what I said.

People died from Covid, not the fucking machines that were helping them breath when the Covid virus had decimated their lungs....How fucking stupid are you really???

Here is an old link on ICU care and the ventilator mortality rate. Maybe this will help "educate you", but I doubt it, you're just a fucking Covid vaccine denier...

As to damage to lungs from ventilators, yes it can happen, but if you had Covid and your lungs were failing, guess what? You went on the Vent or you died...That's the facts jack!

No what you implied was the Ventilators were killing them. Not the Covid.

What Rob is stating is if the virus was destroying your lungs, the only hope you had was a ventilator. Did you not fucking understand that? Damn your reading comprehension sucks....not that the ventilators were killing them...

Do Advanced Directives, Living Wills et al preclude the application of a ventilator?

I found this to be interesting: Mary Lou Retton was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis after the birth of her last child. "Having babies sucked all the calcium out of me". She had a total left hip replacement in 2005 at the age of 37 and a total right hip replacement in 2006. Having total hip replacements at that age is very much out of the ordinary. She had a spinal fusion of her tailbone in 2016. She's had a total of 19 orthopedic surgical procedures since 2000.

She supposedly had health insurance through her husband's employer (he's a football coach at Houston Baptist college) but they were divorced in 2018. She got the house. Estimates of her net worth are all over the map.
