I was not impressed. Good fight scenes and interesting take on the whole story but overall I was sorta bored with it. I did like how they focused on him being an alien. That's barely touched upon in the previous movies.
I had trouble getting past the fact that after all the shit that went down there's no way in hell anyone doesn't know Clark Kent is Superman. I mean I know that's always a weak spot in the story but come on. Everyone from his childhood knows unless they're complete fucking idiots and Lois Lane knows unless she's even dumber than the kids from his childhood.

i've always had problems with superman even before there were movies, because of the glaring holes in the basic story.
how does an all-powerful kid grow up and not accidentally fly, or rip someone's arm off, or bend the jungle gym?
and yeah, a pair of glasses has got to be the single stupidest disguise ever conceived.

They kinda sorta touched on him learning to adjust to his powers as a child but not a whole lot. Still, I'd let that go if it weren't for the fact that so many people know who he is and he's still able to use the same name and just disappear into society.
I mean they make a huge point of the fact that people he knew growing up were aware of his powers and now this guy is flying around fighting aliens and the aliens visit the Kent farm and on and on and on. Then at the end he throws on some glasses, keeps the same fucking name and all is good. What the fuck?

i'll definitely wait til it comes out on hbo or some shit.

after that ridiculously bad attempt back in '06 with kevin spacey they'd really have to hit a home run here for me to not just write off this entire franchise

more like, discussing the quality of a popular narrative.

would you rather we debate the depth and greatness of the stupidity of unsolicited responses?

The new superhero movies have based themselves in reality. They aren't campy anymore. That means they gotta follow the rules. The Marvel movies do for the most part.

Got it. That other asshole seems a bit touchy.

I can suspend my disbelief for a good movie, i.e. Superman 1, 2, and even many people don't agree with me, Superman III (it was fun, I liked it).
But not even I will defend Superman IV.

There were even parts of Superman Returns I liked. It could have been a great movie if they had expanded more on the Donner franchise instead of just retreading it so much.

Man of Steel was just a bad movie. So why bother with the suspension of disbelief, why bother defending the plot holes? It's just not worth it. The script was bad, though I think serviceable - it could have been made to work with another rewrite - no Superman fighting a machine in the middle of the ocean for 20 minutes while people of Metropolis are killed by the thousands with no one to help them except a newspaper editor that is able to save his secretary. Great one person saved out of 10,000? A better director would have also helped, Snyder did a terrible job.

maybe my touchyness was a product of your smug snarkyness, viejo

This will be my last response to you as I would not want to distract you from your creepy stalking.

I have seen people defend Superman IV. The consensus among the faithful seems to be that the budget made the movie appear worse than it was.
I don't agree. I think it sucked balls.

And now on to Despicable Me 2.

Great movie. Seriously. Way better than it had to be and they managed to use the minions without making me sick of them. Well done and funny.
Plus I want me some of those minions.

I liked it, but I thinm it dragged on a bit. I like how it was on the darker side. I thought zod was a bit of a pansy though. His liutenent was more of badass then he was.

The Zod from the original movies was better I think.
I did enjoy the back story on Krypton. Nice to see more to it and also the technology that is all but ignored in every other movie.

Sounds like its pretty hard to trick you;)

or you can be a man, and own up to your snarky comment.

Yeah, Adre.

Do like pete and deny, deny deny for a bit and then come back and offer a halfhearted apology while simultaneously justifying said comment as "hey, it's just my opinion".

I really wanted to love it because 1. I'm a big Superman fan from my childhood on. 2. Because I took my father to see it in Imax 3D for fathers day and spent $38 on tickets.... for a movie.

I thought the fight scenes were good and finally worthy of a what Superman movie should be, but all in all I didn't love it, and in parts I was just plain irritated with some of the liberties taken with the story.

I have to say, I liked Superman Returns better. Perhaps I'm too much of a purist.

The fight scenes were awesome but like you, I had problems with the liberties they took with the story.
I have to admit it was pretty cool to see Superman snap Zods neck.

The funny thing is, I never disowned my comment. I said what I said.

I didn't read any snark in your comment, and I would have said very much the same thing to KRC had you not already done so.

To the topic at hand, my sense is that KRC is confusing "reality" with these types of movies being set in the present.

Unless, of course, Iron Man totally did kick Loki's ass and I slept through it all. I did have a wicked hangover that w-e, so......

I think you are confused by what I was saying. So there.

Yeah, I don't care for that guy they have playing Zod. He irritaes me even in Boardwalk Empire. He rubs me the wrong way. The fight scens were pretty great, but if you saw it in IMAX the audio is waaaay too loud.

This is coming from someone that plays in a rock band.

It was distracting from what was going on on the screen.
