Mama Blu's

Hi Blu -

I had a day like that yesterday - as a result, I've had an achy head all day :(

I make at least one batch of this every year. Obviously the recipe is for a larger group, however it can be scaled down, or up, as you need. (I have made triple batches before :D) It also holds well and even gets better with age. Just be careful not to bring it to a full boil or you'll lose the alcohol. Oh, and it is served in tea cups, make sure there are raisins and goodies in each serving. Skol.

Swedish Glug
750 ml bottle of Port Wine
10 oz. Vodka
1/2 Cup Raisins
1/4 Cup Water
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 Cinnamon Stick
Pinch of Cardamom Seeds
12/18 Almond Slivers
*
Add Water and Sugar in saucepan and bring to boil dissolving all sugar. Add remainder of ingredients and raise temperature. Do not bring to a boil. Light the alcohol with a match and immediately extinguish with lid then repeat.

Is this the same thing as Glogg? Because oh my God, I LOVE Glogg. Yum!

How you doin' Absinthe? Sorry yesterday was bad for you. Anything I can do to help?

Hmmm eggnog and bourbon?
Mulled cider?
hot cider and bourbon?
bourbon?

{catching a theme here? :D}

Hey there, Wombat! How are you tonight?

Any particular beer I should keep stocked for you?

Well actually I am the exception. I don't drink. Yes shock horror an Aussie that doesn't drink. :)

Congrats on facing up to the Mammogram I know that is hard to do.

Oh and I found this little tip for the festive season that might be right up your alley.

And I'm feeling Great today thank you very much for asking. Hope you are not too cold today and are keeping warm.

Thanks, but no. Just another day at the office, gives me an excuse to drink every night ;)

Oh yeah . . . same thing :)

Oh wow! Those are cool! I am going to have to try my hand at them. Thanks!

haha

Generally gone with Buffalo Trace, very smooth.

Got it! I will have a talk with my purchasing agent. ;)

Finally! Someone else who likes Glogg! Have you tried the premade stuff from World Market?

:kiss:es for Blu

hugs, :kiss:es and cold nose nuzzles for TF.

Yes if you put two blue ones in front of a snow man that could be very interesting :D

No World Market stuff for me . . . just the homemade - it's too easy not to make yourself.

Bourbon? Makers Mark is my go-to for mint juleps. I've been drinking Rye for most of my other cocktails though. I like the Bulliet Rye or Jameson's Irish for my Manhattans. It was four of those last night that led to my condition today. The Manhattan is my go-to drink.

Ok you will have to excuse me for awhile. House inspection coming up next week and I need to clean up the place. Ahh a mans work is never done. Washing to do, Floors to sweep and wash, Walls to clean, The yard to clean and tidy, Floors to vacuum... The list is endless.

When you finish there, can you come here?

Rye's good, love a good rye in an Old Fashioned. Walker Red and Coke pair well for a quick drink as well.

For you my dear, anything. However we will need to discuss a mutually beneficial payment scheme. Lets see you are getting your house cleaned so what could i get cleaned in return........? :D

I have never had a Manhattan. What does it taste like?

Blech. My sister likes those but I just can't get past the smell.

Ummm... can I think about that? [laughs]

Every bartender does it differently so you need to find one you like. My father in law, who introduced me to them many years ago used Canadian Whiskey and sweet vermouth. I've experimented with many combinations and this is my basic recipe.

Manhattan
2 oz. Rye Whiskey
1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth
1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth
Dash Orange Bitters

If I use Jameson, like I mentioned above, I use Fee's whiskey barrel bitters or cherry bitters. It's not in the recipe, but there's also a cherry and some cherry juice involved :D Stir and serve on the rocks in an old fashioned glass.

They kinda remind me of an alcoholic Vanilla Coke.

Never been a huge fan of Vanilla Coke. And man am I ever missing my soda! Haven't had any in over a month. :(

But what does it taste like? sweet? sour? bitter?

They're sweet - like whiskey. The whiskey is the dominant flavor. The vermouth sweetens it a bit more. There's no fizz like coke. To me they're smooth.

Order one sometime to see.

I don't know if I am that adventurous. [laughs] drinks seem like something too expensive to chance. Ya know?

Just hang out at the end of the bar until a gentleman such as myself offers to buy you one ;)

OK, I'm settling up and moseying off. G'night

No drink that signals the seasons for me.

But, I thought you might get a kick out of this one. The ex sent me a text saying our court time got changed, but I wasn't notified. I think he's trying to pull a fast one so I don't show up. When I told him I'd be there at the normal time anyway, he just said, oh, I'll text you later.

Oh jeez, that is ridiculous.

Can't you call the courthouse and get the time? Just to see if he was trying to pull a fast one.
