Long paragraphs

My latest story, "Kim and Kyle", was submitted using the standard format, including short paragraphs. The first half of the story appeared normally. However, the second half of the story appeared as one long run-on paragraph. I have to assume the fine people at Literotica are to 'blame' for this. I appreciate the feedback suggesting I use paragraphs, but since the feedbacks were all anonymous I can't respond to you individually. Thus, this post. Anyway, I apologize that the story didn't appear as it was submitted and hopefully it won't happen again.

How did you submit the story? How were your paragraphs formatted? Did you space them or did you use indents? Did you use styles?

The problem is generally in the translation from your computer to the server to Laurel's screen.

KM,

I'm going to stick-up for eroslit on this one. You may remember a story I submitted to SDC that had the same problem. Everyone writing critiques mentioned the l-o-n-g paragraphs. That was a standard Word .doc file. My last submission was a single spaced .txt file, no indentions, with a space between paragraphs. Same problem.

In both cases I was able to submit an edited .txt version with hard carriage returns used for paragraph breaks and that worked.

RF,

Thanks. The main reason I posted this was to see if it was common and, if so, some possible fixes in the future. Thanks again.

Well, you know, I WAS TRYING TO HELP!

I happen to have some information on how it all works on Laurel's end so that you might prevent this from happening in the future.

Forget it. Muddle through on your own and have fun doing it.

the last story I submitted did the same thing. I got a message saying I neeeded to break it down, so I did and resubmitted it and for some reason it still hasn't been posted. Any suggestions? Should I try submitting it again, maybe under a new title?

The problem is usually the translation from a word-processor's formatting to HTML. Eventually, no matter what format yousubmit your story in, it gets reduced to plain text with two hard returns at the end of each paragraph. The indents and white space between paragraphs that Word shows on the screen or prints onthe page are NOT necessarily what will display when the text is converted to ASCII for inclusion in Lit's HTML template.

Using the show hidden characters function in MS Word can show you how your paragraphs are delineated.

For a method of previewing your story before submission to check for extraneous pargraph breaks, special characters, and proper formting, see my how to essay: http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=57781

As long as we are discussing this, and there are those with information on the topic, let me reiterate.

1). Try to submit in ASCII DOS TEXT.
2). Separate paragraphs with a Hard Return.

Can we add this to the list?

3). Use the same formatting code as we use on the Bulletin Board: [*] [/*]

*
i - italics
b - bold
u - underline

Are these Rules correct?

Is Rule #3 correct?

Are there any other rules we should know about?

Could Laurel, or one of her knowledgeable Moderators, respond?

Rule three is close, but no cigar.

To use formatting of Italics, Bold and Underline, you need to use HTML tags instead of vB tags. The only real difference for the three tags listed are the delimiters. HTML codes use "angle brackets" instead of the "Square brackets" used for the BB's vB tags. <> instead of []

Paragraphs should be TWO hard returns (paragraph marks in MS Word) instead of one.

Thanks Harold!

That's why I had not tried anything 'creative' in my submissions.

I knew if I tried to get fancy, I'd fuck up!
