There's a great deal that I agree with in the above postings; I just didn't want to do a massive multi-quote in order to say so. :)

There's one specific point that I'd like to pick up on:

I wonder if men feel there are cliques, or excluded from groups.
Most definitely, yes, although sometimes the exclusion may be subconscious rather than deliberate. The most obvious example to me is men who are only interested in replying to women (the reverse may also be true). I've often made what I felt were helpful contributions to threads started by male OPs and had them completely ignored. I don't fret about it much, but for repeat offenders I make a mental note not to waste my time interacting with them any further. To borrow pmann's terminology, they're just dicks, and they'd probably be proud to bear that moniker.

I'm conscious of the irony that I'm admitting here to participating in an exclusion process of my own.

For the record, nothing beats Saturday morning, the promise of a full weekend in front of you.......

The interaction or rather the actions of men & women at Lit are most interesting. It's my observation that 90% of the women come here to interact, have fun and just enjoy themselves and if they happen to find a playmate that's even better. For men it appears the converse is true. 90% are here trying to "hook up". I admit that I could be wrong but it's just how it feels to me.

I've always been amazed at how people can be rude and impolite in their pursuit of a playmate. Vulgar blind PMs, breaking rules in word threads...etc. but it must work, results drive behavior. We all claim we don't care for it but yet some of us apparently like it. Do you have a double standard? Would you admit it if you did? Or do we just settle sometimes because of our horniness?

I have never paid any attention to this thread before but reading it now, it kind of makes perfect sense.

I can't really complain about inside jokes or cliques, as I'd feel like I'm being hypocritical.

However, what I have noticed over time is how little my 'friend' list has become. I used to talk consistently with a number of people who I now never speak to. It's kind of my own fault, but the constant new threads and dismissive attitudes toward certain posters doesn't help.

Like I say, I don't want to be a hypocrite but I'd like to see the cliques and inside jokes disappear and for more people to be able to express themselves.

It's heading into general board waters.

I find that the cliques are much worse now than they used to be. I try and avoid them as much as possible.
Oh and I also heard that there were people who kept voting for each other in the Litties thread.

The schoolyard is back.

My double standards are directly proportional to the amount of alcohol I've consumed before or while posting.

This is what's funny to me. If you know Clowns, you know that he did that for the entertainment. The fact that some folks took it that seriously is pretty funny. I didn't know it was going on at all until it was over.

And it was very entertaining.
I think it's insecurities that deem that kind of behaviour. The "pick me" attitude.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you meant by voting for each other. I voted for my friends mostly because I find them funny, sexy and nice. However I voted for people I didn't know that well too, but I didn't put too much thought into my votes.

I feel a bit cliquish at times, mostly talking and posting with the same people. Of course I also post in the same threads, so if new people show up I post with them too. As long as it's fun.

I had a little read until I noticed I wasn't even considered for nicest guy.

That's when I decided it was rigged.

Now, that is sad. I voted once, and not even for myself because that's tacky.
I was touched that I was a winner. If people stacked the votes for me, that's on them not me.

To respond to Rainshine and the OP's query if the day. I agree. I'm up for friendship, play is a bonus. But if that's your sole intention, you need to walk away. It pisses me off. I liken it to the difference between wanting a "fuck buddy" or wanting a "friend with benefits".. Two entirely different animals, and I do not want anything to do with the former.

I shy away from answering certain PMs for the tone implied. What's also annoying, and I find very disrespectful and heart breaking...is when you spend time to get to know someone, you DO have a little sexy - sexy time, then that becomes the expectation..

I'm sure there are other women who've experienced the same, you don't have to admit it. :) But anyone can see why those experiences might jade our future reactions even with the NICEST if Lit males....

ETA:

I have to work so if you do respond to this, please do not think I'm ignoring you. I just can't respond right away. :D

No double standard for me. Really, for me, lit is just for fun. I send random pm's to compliment men and women on things I like or admire. I try to connect with people I think I have something in common with. I don't post much on the PG, just cause sometimes the practices get on my nerves, but even then, its cool. Just as in real life, my dick never dictates what I do here. These are still people, after all. I dont know. I've been here at least 10 years, so I've seen it all. I go with the flow and try not to make waves.

I was vaguely aware of the Litties thread but didn't bother to read it.

If he'd called them the "Clitties" I might have paid more attention.

I don't think I have double standards, if I want to react to a post on an "above you" thread which is ten or twenty posts above the last one, I'll react to the last one and add the other one with my reaction to it in a different fond.

I also don't send "want to fuck" one-liners to people I don't know, so I don't feel double-standardish by not reacting if I get such messages.

I sincerely hope that the proportion of men solely attempting to "hook up" isn't as high as 90%. If it is, then the Lit ladies have even more sympathy from me than before for what they have to put up with. :(

That's a depressing thought. It's that impression that sometimes puts me off approaching a Lit lady with whom I might otherwise wish to share a private friendly comment. If they appear to be a regular target for unwanted attention (and especially if they're publicly bemoaning that as a fact), then I'll usually just leave them alone, to be on the safe side.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I may carry a double standard around ignoring people that I believe to be behaving selfishly, yet disliking being ignored myself. I guess the verdict on that one hinges on how selfishly I'm acting. I believe that I'm generally respectful with other Litsters unless I have a very good reason not to be (in which case I just tend to stay quiet), but I'm unable to speak for the perceptions of other people on that point.

I think i speak for all the lit ladies that pm's from you would be welcome… you write eloquently, you have something to say, and you are polite. I don't believe that a PM from you would come with any expectations.

We enjoy getting random PM's as much as the next person, but prefer that it actually says something worth reading and doesn't jump into sex.

If you want to comment in depth on something someone posted the quote what they said on the thread and start with that.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Yes, yes and yes.

I dont get Pm's usually. Last one I got was last week sometime

But I very rarely send Pm's to people I dont know, unless its for humour reasons. Several have been gifted with my Willie pic, for example, and a few have even seen my Ginger nuts :D Generally if I send Pm's its to talk, or because I dont have them on yahoo, or elsewheres

Brava!
I completely agree on all points.

Chained and Dutchrain's comments prompted several questions:

*Has anyone in pursuit of a playmate used lines which they thought were reasonable only to receive a response that it was considered rude and/or crude?

*Do women send "want to fuck" one-liners to people they don't know on Lit?
I'd be curious to know if any do and what reactions they may have received.

*Are results driving behavior?
I'd like to know if anyone who does send vulgar, blind PMs continues to do so because it gets results. Will anyone tell us about their strike rate? I suspect the bulk of those using such tactics would not be readers of this thread, or they'd read all the Litiquette advice on this issue and ignored it. Perhaps they ignore it because it works....

I'm interested in this, too...please, let me know so I can enroll you into the Sisterhood Of the Traveling Douche Bottle

That would be a clue that there is a man behind the monitor with a woman's name.

As an FYI - I'm simply responding to the original topic, not skipping anyone. Everyone has made wonderful points and I've enjoyed reading them all.

I never mind getting a friendly pm and almost always reply. Those that are rude or just dumb, I delete and don't bother with. Unfortunately, a lot of those first polite messages quickly become focused on sex and it's clear they just want a quick fuck.

About three quarters of the time they disappear when they realize I'm not interested and the rest of the time they apologize and still want to talk. I think most people just want to be acknowledged.

I honestly don't think the vulgar stuff works with women, but it only takes once and then they're sold and they're constantly looking for the next one.

Completely agree, especially to what I highlighted in bold.

I really enjoy getting to know someone on here, and sure, things getting sexy could be a great thing. But often times, I feel like the person I'm enjoying a chat with wants to rush into the sexy stuff and keeps trying to steer the conversation in that direction. I've shied away from some people only because I knew exactly where they wanted to go with their friendly "hello" for the day.
