I'm not understanding why there is a "right" answer and a "wrong" answer. When I go to work, I don't necessarily discuss my other circle of friends - but that does not mean that I value my work friendships any less. Work is just one example. It's being discussed as if I go out of my way to conceal friendship when maybe it's just a matter of.. we discuss things outside that matter to us outside of this "Lit group" and, quite frankly, those things don't matter to anyone else.

The fact that I share things privately with someone else make that relationship, in and of itself, special. A public acknowledgement is not what validates that friendship.

Until this became a topic on this thread, I don't think I've ever seen anyone slam a couple (except when they took over a thread with private details) and I presumed that we were just discussing this as we have so many other things. Surely we are allowed to disagree on this just as we have so many other things.. without people feeling insulted.

I don't think that there is a right or wrong, nor do I think anyone feels slighted. I don't think anyone has felt that or claimed that. I said I felt like I was in the minority, but not that it was a negative thing. I was only surprised that the opinions were what they were.

My comment was more on how some people actively hide their friendships. I don't really give a donkey's dick about it, I just truly don't understand why someone would do that.

There isn't.

Each couple does what works for them, and that's the way it should be.
You do what makes you happy together and to hell with the opinion of others.

Never let anyone make you feel bad for doing the things that make you happy.

I agree. I don't think there is a right or wrong. I think that people are just different. For me, I was interested in hearing why people would want to keep such an important friendship secretive. It's not a knock on anyone for doing so. I just didn't understand it. I still don't, because I don't feel that any of the people who responded keep their friendships "secret". No offense was meant by any questions or comments.

Whatever makes the two people happy is between them. It's not right or wrong. Even if I thought one way or the other, I don't think it would affect how a couple behaves, anywho.

Oh Great - now I have to do damage control with my other 437 Lit lovers!

(meet me over in the "What made you laugh today" thread)

Oh. My bad. I thought we were exclusive.

But.....but..... I thought that you loved me!
(The fact that we don't speak is irrelevant)
The heart wants what the heart wants! *nods*

Ooops. I should have know that that all those nekkid pictures you sent to me were a show of love.

You give me the clap and then you move on.

It's the gift that keeps on giving.

I just like to keep some things private. Unless a couple takes over thread after thread with their public adoration, then I don't have any problem watching their public relationship. I find most of these relationships sweet, actually.

My relationships here are not of the lovey-dovey nature. I am married, as are most of the men I've had off-Lit interactions with. We're here for the sexual play, nothing more. I just don't feel the need to share any of what I do with them with any of the other folks here. And I certainly don't feel like my partners are insulting me because they don't say how much they like me on my thread. In fact, the men I've interacted with most off Lit (save for one, see below) have never posted on my thread.

As for the one somewhat public thing here last year, there was absolutely nothing exclusive about the relationship, and it was more about him showing the other men on my thread that he had a more personal connection with me than they did. What a douche.

Why would it disgust you?

And that last paragraph above is what I meant when I said I was disgusted with my behavior. Wasn't about the public reveal of a Lit relationship, it was the specific circumstances of that particular one.

I agree with Giggle - there's no right or wrong here. It's personal choice, and if both partners are on board with the way things are or aren't revealed publicly, then all is right with the Lit world.

Sort of like taking a cyber wee on you to mark his territory, eh?

I'm going to take over as Chained for a moment.

How long are you in a relationship with someone before you introduce that person to your friends and family? Have you introduced every SO to mom? If you witness the cyber wee (here or in real life), are you more inclined to detach yourself from the object of the wee? Maybe we're not as different as we think.

My family met Gracie the morning of our wedding. :D

Quite the exchange going on. I think it boils down to what the needs are for each couple. I know of Litsters that have a deep love for their partner, one they have considered leaving current partners for and no one publicly knows, save for a few friends and they don't even know the other person name.

Then there are the couples who might appear to have self-esteem issues that want everyone to know that someone loves them.

There are those who are fucking around and taking whomever will say yes to the proverbial cyber bed, and they try hard to not appear slutty.

There are those that have built themselves a Lit brand as it were, and they work hard to protect it and feel that sharing would damage that brand.

There are those that say "I'll fuck who I fuck, you fuck who you fuck, just don't rub my face in it". In real life those would be the open relationships.

The point I'm trying to make is that every pairing off is unique, and as long as both sides are getting what they want from it, then it's cool.

I think where issues develop is when expectations of the relationship are not equal and it never is discussed, that's when feelings get hurt and train wrecks occur.

Hops off soap box, goes back to conference calls and emails

Awwww Chains I had this biiiig prolific response playing out in my head.
I just got home from work and you virtually said it all hehe
I totally agree with you.

As long as the partnership is happy and no one feels like they are being someone's
Dirty Little Secret because they're cyberfucking their way around Lit then it's allll gravy.
:D

Sorry for stealing your thunder FS. BTW, I loooooove gravy :D

Sort of EXACTLY like that. LOL!

I'm really curious about this one. Anyone?

Tell us how you really feel, Fakie.

I'm in the keep the relationships private camp I guess, mostly because I like those to be a separate part of my life. Nothing against open relationships though, just personal preference.

Wait - what if I like being a dirty little secret?

I like a person for who they are. This is kind of the opposite of the question you asked, but chained sort of mentioned it, so I'll go there. I wouldn't like someone because they were wee'd upon. I don't have that desire to try to lure someone away. For me, that's not how attraction works.

Ah, the proverbial pissing up the (virtual) leg of another Litster.
How lovely.

This is starting to read a little like a watersports thread.
