I believe if there was a contest for shittiest time zone differential, Rainshine and I would win. Our time zone difference ranges from 14-16 hours, depending on the season. Right now is our best time, as it's only 14 hours difference.

Sometimes sleep suffers. Sometimes things need to be moved around. Sometimes work is skipped. But, no matter how tired I am, it's always worth it.

I've got you beat, but to be more specific would be divulging more info. than I'd prefer. ;)

How do we make it work? Just like everyone else--we just do. I'm the one who loses sleep, but my schedule is flexible and his is not, so I don't mind. He lets me know when he's here and I shut everything else down for the duration. It's not completely unheard of for me to nod off while we're talking  but he is gracious about it and we just pick up where we left off the next day.

We are pretty diligent in our daily-ness--a missed day feels like a missed month! Making time for each other requires effort on both our parts, but as pmann said, making the sacrifice is worth it.

*cue gooey voice*

He's worth it.

*giggle*

This brings up an interesting point. Why do people feel the need to conceal the broader info of their relationships or friendships? I'm Genuinely not trying to single you out wildhoney because that's certainly not unique behaviour here. What could detailing a time difference truly give away in the end?

I guess I'm just curious what leads people to the varying levels of discretion they may/may not apply to having their friendships in the public domain here at Lit?

You know, I debated with myself over whether to post on this topic in the first place. :) ha ha

in the public domain here at Lit?

for us, this would be the same irl. we are naturally private people in this regard.

lol, I don't think you have a corner on the "shittiest time differential" market, believe me! I just thank god I'm off for the summer...at least I can sleep during the day here!

*hands over shortly held worst time zone crown*

Where does he live? The fucking moon?!?!?

It certainly feels that way. *sigh*

I think I'd have to confer with Ella before accepting the crown. Although I do look fetching in bling. ;)

Sorry, it's not a fetching looking crown. :( I don't think this is a crown we want to wear. It means distance is a bitch.

I agree with WildHoney that I am not the type to go on about my relationship in real life either. Regarding discussion boards, I think that, in groups, it can make a group feel too exclusive if it's clear that people have paired off as couples. Sometimes this is fun and appropriate but I'm not sure that the tone is always welcoming if a person is already shy or isn't sure he/she belongs there.

That's understandable. I have often wondered the same thing Rainshine said. My thoughts would have leaned, mostly, towards people being secretive because they were getting some on the side. And they don't want to post openly about it, lest the ladies/gents put two and two together. But your response is a reason I would think less common.

Oh, I'm getting loads on the side. :D:D But most of it is out in public, as far as the question of "who."
Whereas my primary "friendship" takes place off the site pretty much entirely.

I meant Ella, but I am happy (tho not that happy) to see you. And my furthest was South Africa, however many hours that was.

I saw what you did there. You can visit that picture thread anytime you don't want to look at my little blue elephant. ;)

@pmann, I'm on the east coast. I talk to *maybe* two or three people in my own timezone; everybody else just seems to be west of me, and down under. I didn't mean to imply that I was the one struggling with the whole lack of sleep issue (although I do). You and Honey can fight over the title.:D

how can you not know how many hours it is???

I count the hours to see what time it is where he is several times a day....

ha ha Ella--everyone seems to be east of me! or in the UK, or down under, as you said.

I'm guilty of this. Frequently. When talking within my own timezone.
I work odd shifts and it plays havoc with my body-clock.
I have no idea how you lot manage to maintain relationships with people on opposite sides of the planet - it's admirable. You're all better people than me! :)

I'm motivated. He's one of a kind. ;)

However, I will say that I was already accustomed to living in two very different time zones (tho not as much of a spread as now). I giggle a bit on the inside when a new friend in an area that I am already familiar with tells me what time of day it is there and I think to myself, "yeah, I know."

i'm a naughty pixie that way. :cattail:

Understood!!!!

Enjoy your stuff on the side and your primary friendship.

I'm not really concerned about the time zone thing. I get here when I get here, goof around with whomever is here and leave when I'm good and ready or too drunk to send dick pictures to random newbies who just signed up on lit.

With regard to Chain's posed question... I wonder how many people just have schedules that really work out well together. Those lucky bastards.

yep. :) they are very much apples and oranges--in my mind, and in his.

this is not a competitive situation.

This does make me wonder about the opinions of exclusivity on a site like this. Thanks for your responses. I've found them informative.

Heyyy!! How come I never got a dick pic when I was a newbie??

I've been here four months, now--I think you owe me a wanking vid, too.

I think exclusivity is rare. Too many variety of sweeties around for most people.
I think if you find someone who is like minded and wants to only be with one person...
Then you have found something very special that most people on Lit won't have, whether that is through choice or through compromise or being naive.

But you knew that anyway :)

I love talking to people all over the world and that means that 99.9% of the people I chat with are in some different time zone than I am. I mean when I can remember that New Zealand is two hours behind but a day ahead of me..or the east coast is 6 hours ahead and moving across the country to a two hour difference...then add in or take away daylight savings time...sometimes ya just need a score card.

I have tapered off over the years though....It's a rare thing these days that I stay up into the wee hours of the morning to have a chat with those friends in those time zones that are the most different in time...we just enjoy passing each other when the rare opportunity presents itself and leave pm's when it doesn't.

Those that are close to me deal with the same time issues as we all do..both real world time and time available here. I don't think any of us stress about the difference in times or that sometimes we just aren't available...we just focus more on the time we are able to have and enjoy that.

Oops I forgot to answer Chains question :D

I think if people care for eachother and want to spend time together,
then they will make time for each other regardless of the time zone.
Simples :)
