Monday morning never gets me down ;)

I've run across some posts lately (not here of course), where it appears that someone posted just to be seen. For some reason this one really drives me nuts. New or old to the boards, post when you have something to contribute, you'll come off looking way better. This really is a place where quality is valued over quantity

I certainly hope NOT! If that were true most of the playground threads that are my favorite would not exist. I mean you can not call battle of the sexes or the ABC threads 'quality'. They are mindless fun, killing time threads and I  them!

I agree. I think there is a time and place for both. It is also a way to socialize and meet like minded people

I have nothing to add to this.

Agree....
And some threads exist for specifically that purpose.....to be seen. The only time 'I wanna be seen posts' annoy me is when they are of the perpetual love type....or the perpetual 'ho hum...I'm so down...' type.
Maybe I'm not thinking of the same thing the op is.....

I love you...but I am so depressed today. I don't think my dog doesn't love me anymore.

Other than that. I have nothing to add.

But you never call...it makes me want to end It ........'don't think my dog doesn't ......' is a double negative;) so you and your pooch are good

*snicker*....we'll get in trouble for this you know

Two negatives make a positive....but two positives never make a negative. Yeah, right.

I have never called you. And you've never called me either. Maybe that's what I'm really down in the dumps over.

SEE ME!

I don't mind posts that are made just to get attention or are stupid. As long as they're not annoying, but long well thought out posts can be that too. Text speak is always annoying, by the way.

I think when it's people who are genuinely feeling down and are reaching out,
Lit can rally around and give words of encouragement. It's a lovely thing to do.

What I can't stand are the constant attention seekers on threads who make me want to
slit my wrists and they can suck the life out of people. Or the competing for male
attention one trying to outdo the other

Yeah, exactly what you ladies are saying. Sometimes people go through genuine situations where they might need a friend to lean on. And I try to be that person for those that need it.

But then you've got the attention whores. And who needs that shit?

SMH. WITW RU talkin' about? FTR I think UR Gr8!! TTYL :kiss:

(shaking my head. What in the world are you talking about? For the record I think you're great. talk to you later)

I really am shaking my head, not exactly how i saw the thread going today.

I stipulate the counting threads are fine as created.

I will also stipulate over indulgence of public displays are irritating.

You can however add nothing to the topic and still be entertaining.

Maybe this is like the definition of porn, I can't exactly define it but I know when I see it... ;)

You're a just saying that to get the guys' attention, fakie.

Oh dear ...

Let me and the Oxford Dictionary help you: "Printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate sexual excitement.

Origin

Mid 19th century: from Greek pornographos 'writing about prostitutes', from pornē 'prostitute' + graphein 'write'."

Good morning Litiquette.

So apparently Robin Williams died. I was a fan as were millions of others. But here was a case of when I didn't enjoy social. Yes you were shocked, yes you were sad, yes he mad you laugh. These are universal truths, no sense in flooding the social media pipeline with the same thoughts over and over.

Or maybe I'm just grumpy.

Edit: Why do I so often seem to post on a topic just as Chained moves on to a new one?

I'd suggest that everyone who posts on a forum is an attention seeker to some extent. What varies are the subtlety and sophistication of the method used to gain attention, and the further objectives of the poster once attention has been seized (if any).

I'd love to gain myself attention by starting threads that are original, thought-provoking and popular (like this one ;)), but I haven't managed that yet despite a lot of thought on the subject. Perhaps a "Me-me-me-me!" post is sometimes simpler and more immediately rewarding. A forum can tolerate a few of those, as long as the noise level doesn't become too high.

Hmm... I'm not sure whether the point that I'm trying to make is profound or blatantly obvious. Still, I thank you for your attention. :D

I was a fan, too, and didn't post anything. Like you, I thought my FB feed was just full of too much of the tributes. I didn't know him personally, so I thought because of all the postings that my posting anything would be a bucket of water in the ocean.

I had a different response. I wasn't as shocked as I was saddened for people in general who are suffering and aren't able to use the help.. it's such a helpless thing for everyone involved. Other than here, I discussed it with one friend and the conversation wasn't really about society's loss as much as how hard it would be for either of us if one of our loved ones was hurting that way..
and maybe that's why people need to talk about it.

I had a family member who killed himself after battles with severe drugs and depression, so I am incredibly sensitive to these kinds of things. And I'm also annoyed at the stupid shit people say during those times. I am all for well wishes to the families though. In an awful time like this, it can be comforting to know that the person who passed had a huge impact on the lives of so many.

What does get my goat is the reactions of the news and the press in these instances. I remember when Michael Jackson died, I was so fucking annoyed. The same outlets that called him a child molester and mocked his plastic surgery were the very ones who immediately started talking about his amazing contributions to music. Same with Anna Nicole Smith. These people were the joke of the media and then they were held up with such high esteem the moment they passed. If I was a family member I would want to give a big fuck you to them. You don't get to wash your hands of all the bad shit you said by "remembering them". Here it is in graph form:
