Some people just annoy you whether that's in real life or in text form.
Would you make an effort to talk to someone who annoys you?
I would never go out my way to be nasty but I won't go out of
my way to discuss why the person annoys me either.
Sometimes it's the vibe (yeh keep yer mind oot the gutter pervs) they give off
or the mentally challenging things they say. Or just an attitude they exude.
Either way some people do my head in but I wouldn't be running after them
to analyse why!
I don't want to spend my time with them.

I did tell someone to quit being an asshole in an open post the other day because he did give off the wrong vibe and definitely had the wrong attitude.

That makes sense FaS. Yes, there are those that send out a vibe that's not in sync with you. I guess I was going after that next level of dislike. And maybe people do put lots of effort into hating on someone else. I was just thinking that yesterday amongst the active replies there was some animosity building between some folks and I never like seeing that here. While not quite naive to think that this is Candyland(wasn't that a thread back in the day?) I want people to feel they can post here without having to worry about pissing someone off or being attacked for a post.

Perhaps we should go back to wee posts, that seemed to be the busiest part if yesterday. ;)

Where were you when I got called a "limp dick" in v1 of this thread. LOL

Some people feel their opinion is right and sometimes people feel others can be snidey/sarky condescending in a jokey way and the other party feels the need to defend themselves?
It's very easy to read intent wrongly in text. The way I read into something could be completely different from the way you or someone else sees it.

I don't remember seeing that one. :) Otherwise, I'd have had your back.

If you have his back can I have his front? ;) Just kidding!

Seriously though, I have been reading a lot of stuff on here and it did seem like some were taking offense to others opinions. I like how pmann put it though, "I don't think there is a right or wrong. I think that people are just different."

As for the dislike, I think FaS hit it on the head, some just seem to rub the wrong way!

A very wise woman once told me you can always control what you say but you can't control how people choose to hear it.

I don't know who felt pissed off or attacked, I didn't see any reason for anyone to feel either of those emotions but I guess from this post someone did. So.... I guess....choose to say/choose to hear.

And maybe it was just a case of Poppa Bear being a little over reactive and protective.

Unicorns and glitter, anyone?

I feel like I missed something yesterday? I think opinions were shared, questions were asked/answered...but I missed the part where somebody felt like his/her Cheerios were pee'd upon.

Or wee'd upon, according to the guidelines of this thread.

I'll see your unicorns/glitter and raise you a pair of boobs. (THOSE I actually have. ;) )

As if anyone could have a limp dick with all this talk of wee. I vaguely remember the "limp dick" episode of As Lit Turns. I chalked it up as inadvertently touching an oversensitive nerve.

I've woke up to a few PM's telling me how much of an asshole I am for what I've said. Then I have to wander back through my posts to figure out what I said and who the person flipping their wig are. To date, it's never been the person I was aiming at, which is hilarious to me. I love it when people out themselves. (I admit again, I'm an ass like that. Not going to change this late in life.)

I've always found it interesting when people try to hide their crazy behind the PM door. It comes out eventually anyway.

/aimless rambling

If we could all just start with the premise that my words and opinions are it and a bit, then that would work out best for all (me).

As I said just yesterday, and I realize it was one of the most profound observations of my life, and after a slight sobbing fit for how sadly that defines my life, I shall refine it and state it again. This time larger and in red so it has a bit more panache.

Can I win if I don't enter?

Regarding the whole grievance thing..
I've not really had one. The one grievance type issue that I've encountered here is when a friendship is growing and then, for whatever reason, something happens to stall the friendship. Often this is handled with grace and the people realize that each has details of real life that may interfere with this here - things can pick up where they left off when real life settles a bit. Often this is a time for growing because you develop a deeper appreciation for what the other is experiencing. Once or twice, I've received some nasty email about not pulling my weight in the friendship and the person declares a solid intention of leaving Lit forever. (forever is typically less than a week)

I never know whether I'm supposed to regret that we didn't get a chance to come to an understanding of what happened.. or should I be grateful that I have escaped the drama.

To quote a fellow Litster:

Don't you know if the whole world doesn't do exactly what you think they should, then you're supposed to get butthurt?

I have issues with the word "butthurt".

I didn't get the impression that anyone got super offended yesterday. If they did, is like to know who, so I can publicly mock them. I think it was a discussion of opinions and perceptions.

I disagree with lots of people, lots of the time. Most people are wrong (see the number of people who listen to Nickelback). That doesn't mean I don't like them. Rainshine is wrong all the time about shit. I still get on well with her. Mewstly.

As far as people who I like or dislike... I can usually tell who that will be based on a couple factors: race, social status and occupation. Hehe. I'm totally kidding. I'm sure a couple people shat bricks reading that. No no. But I can usually tell within a few posts if I find the person engaging. I have a very particular sense of humour and that's important to me. Some people don't get that humour. If one doesn't quite gel with it, no worries. I don't expect many people to enjoy it. But that does mean we probably wouldn't be friends. And that's okay. I don't need loads of friends. I look at it this way... Jesus had 12 friends and one sold him out for 30 pieces of silver. If Jesus has those kind of odds, I must keep less than 12 close friends.

With all that said, I don't specifically go out of my way to dislike people. I do specifically dislike some people, but it's usually because they just write the stupidest shit known to man or their views are just so stupid I can't wrap my brain around it. It's one thing to have differing views. It's another to have stupid views. Those kinds of people post and it's just like a white hot coat hanger up my urethra. I hate it.

For people like that, I would never PM them and try to stop them from being a fucking dullard, because that's who they are. I can't imagine just asking them to stop being their stupidass self. That's their right.

Then there are other people who I dislike as a person. I don't have many of them in life in general. I feel that such disdain is a waste of energy. However, some people are so shitty, I feel my energy is put to good use!

But even then, I can't imagine really messaging them and putting more effort into getting annoyed by them. I'll just concentrate on the crotch area of their voodoo doll, thank you very much.

I do recall one time, a while back when I got into a public argument with someone and I did take it private. It wasn't meaner in private, but I did it to get it off the boards. It was to truly help her understand what a fucking numpty she was. I think a few people here probably remember the thread to which I was referring.

Man that thread was awesome.

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

peed. my. pants.

(that was totally worth de-lurking for)

Ah yes, limp-dick gate. Good fun.

As for grievances, we all know it's tough sometimes to infer things via a text-only medium such as Lit. If someone's feelings are hurt or they feel insulted/angry/etc., maybe a friendly message is in order to try to clear things up, just in case the intention was misinterpreted. Not that I always follow my own advice, but I say it's still sound nonetheless. :)

"sarky" :)

Remember that song 'The Numpty Dance' By Digital Underground? Good times.
