I definitely think we all carry a Lit personality that's different than RL. sometimes Lit seems so much simpler. Walk in, say what you want, walk back out. But RL doesn't work that way. I've never woke up in the middle of the night thinking about Lit, never gotten nervous wondering how a Lit chat might go, never had to undertake something unpleasant because it was part of the Lit deal. With the long weekend, wouldn't it be great if RL was as simple as Lit?
I must confess that I have sometimes done this. Whilst Lit life is somewhat distant from RL, I'm unable to isolate completely my feelings about it. If I believe that a Lit exchange has gone badly, then I do sometimes worry about it and reflect on how I might improve things. Compared to RL, though, my options for sorting it out are limited. For example, if I've posted something ill-considered in a forum thread, then my only option to make amends is to do it in public. I don't often find myself in that position in RL.

So, whilst I probably agree that Lit life is generally less complicated than RL, I don't believe that it is unreservedly so.

I joined to read the stories and slowly ventured out to some of the forums. Reading the stories allowed me to see there is a lot of variety out there and slowly I began to comment on the forums. For me it mostly a comfort level. Quiet and shy in real life so Lit allows me to slowly break out of a shell.
Hi billygoat! Thanks for de-lurking. I like to make a special point of welcoming quiet and shy people, as I've been there myself and I know how it feels. :)

I think my RL personality is fairly close to my Lit one. I never really thought about being someone different.
I'm the same. For better or worse, I think most of my RL quirks get expressed in my Lit postings unless I deliberately suppress them, which I don't do often.

Wouldn't it though? I think that' s a huge part of the appeal of websites in general, and certainly this one. A simple click of a button, *poof*, asshat deleted.
For a moment there, I thought you were talking about RL; I was marvelling at your drone technology, and feeling slightly fearful. ;)

What a wild day yesterday turned out to be. Feeling bad that Jenny's topic came so late in the Litiquette day. I must be doing something wrong. :D

For me, my interactions here at Lit have very real impact. Sometimes, the difficulties can be greater with people here at Lit.

I don't believe anything that happens on the forums such as someone's posts or threads truly wake me up at night. But if a chat happens where things go south or a misunderstanding occurs, I certainly take that with me.

I have said in this thread before that I met someone here that I hold very dear to me. I certainly consider her a part of my day to day life and I do not separate that from "reality", as it has been stated, if that makes sense.

I am in agreement with this... especially with the difficulties being greater here than in RL. A misunderstanding when something is taken out of context or read incorrectly doesn't happen in real life because you are there with the person or you at least know them and their character if they are part of you life. At the very least, you could text or call them and make it all better.

I try very hard not to upset anyone and it really weighs on me when someone has has gotten the wrong idea. If it were real life, I'd be able to straighten it out on the spot. But, here it might be days or even weeks before a person reads my explanation to set it straight. And yes, I am one to fret over it becasue I can't stand that I might have hurt someone inadvertently.

Ah... yes! You've articulated the issues that I was trying to express far better than I did. :)

I'm glad that other people are able to admit feeling sensitive about the possibility of upsetting others on Lit and the potential difficulties of resolving this. I half-expected to receive a series of "You what!?" and rolling-eyes responses.

I don't think I'm much different in RL than I am at Lit apart from posting erotic images and expressing my likes etc. I wish I could separate Lit from RL but my feelings and emotions don't change just because this is Lit, they stay the same. I've had my heart broken, been naive and foolish but my feelings were real, no different from RL. I don't lose sleep over silly things but if I've upset someone or there has been miscommunication, then yes that bothers me and I feel the need to fix it.

So I seem to have the opposite problem from alot of people. I don't change my thoughts and feelings because it's online. I've often wished I could though. Life would be much easier. But it's taught me to be more careful and your gut instinct is usually right. What is it they say...Fool me once shame on you....Fool me twice shame on me.

do many, or any, of your RL friends know about Lit?

What an excellent post, FaS :rose:...I could have written that myself, tho perhaps not as well ;)

Nope they don't. I'm a closet Litster :D

Same here....I don't like to share.....if I knew someone else was on here I would be a bit more careful what I divulge. Not because of waht I may give away about myself, but about others I may talk about anonymously that they would work out

interesting few days.... chained said something about a wet t-shirt contest... where do we sign up????
:cattail:

Apparently the cat's been away far too long. But the mice seem to be having good naughty fun, so the cat lets them play away.

Well, I am going to go back and try to clarify what I said last night- my topic was the ill-thought-out product of a very sleepy mind, I'm afraid. I wasn't talking about people acting differently than in RL, just that they might apply filters (like in RL) because what they're thinking might not seem to fit the (real) personality they normally present. What you see of me here is definitely Jenny, but there's a lot of her you don't see that I tend to filter out. Maybe I need to work on that! In fact, I think I'll have some more of that lovely Oregon Pinot Grigio now!

And today's topic - While I don't lose sleep over Lit, I have gone to bed and replayed exchanges in my head a few times. Once or twice it was over some drama or miscommunication, but more often it's a conversation that was particularly fun or funny (the Odd Penis Thread comes to mind :D); other times, it's because I'm worrying and praying about someone who is sick or suffering or going through a tough patch. Like it or not, you guys are all real people, and that makes a lot of what happens here real life. Some of it is not so much, but there's a lot of very real stuff that we all share here.

*is glad to see the master of the thread finally home again*

*drops dead mouse at your feet as peace offering*
