What's Litiquette-ville's thought on leaving posts as is vs deleting them upon reconsideration?

Just as in real-life conversations, we all say the wrong thing from time to time. I've deleted posts at times if, upon reflection, they seemed ill-considered or potentially offensive.

The only time I've edited was when I revealed too much info about myself. Otherwise, no regrets about what I've submitted and had read or quoted.

I have no problem editing or deleting posts. I do it sometimes with my picture thread with pictures I've later changed my mind about, but it's usually elsewhere on Lit in a post I later realize shared too much info. I a bit of an over-sharer by nature, so I have to be careful.

I think there are times when we need to edit our posts or when we should edit posts. Everyone probably has a different trigger or a different threshold, but there are definitely times when should be done. Now, I think it's interesting when people edit their posts and then tell you what they edited out and perhaps why. I think that is very insightful. For me, with a few exceptions, most of the times I've edited a post it was because it was spelling or grammatical error. Every now and then I put something in the post that when I look back upon it I realize it's either totally off-base, inappropriate, or just simply inartfully explained. In those cases the edit or delete buttons are your close friends.

(For example I immediately went back in and changed this post because of a grammatical error.)

Hello Litiquette-izans. It's been such a crazy week I haven't been looking at the threads, which means Litiquette faux pas are not spurring topic threads. Instead, you get what's in my head, scary, I know.

What's the proper response to a Litster that contradicts themselves on threads. Not within he same thread but from one thread to another. Do you call them out? Should they be called out? Or do you just ignore and go about your merry way?

I've come across contradictory posts in the past but I would never call anyone out on them unless it directly affects me (or someone else who could get hurt). One....I don't need the drama and two...depending on time between posts...I realise lit has a way of changing your attitude and feelings towards certain topics. Now if people are factually contraditing themselves(I'm married/not...I'm 28/39) I just put them on my bullshit radar and move on...if they are contradicting themselves as it relates to desires....well....I'm guilty as well. What I expressed 6 months ago and what I express now has changed. Especially in regards to ...'I'd never.....blah blah blah)
That being said...I'm not sure I'd notice unless I followed someone closely or they were a prolific poster...

I don't follow anyone closely enough to realize they are contradicting themselves nor do I particularly care. Every person I know carries within them and periodically expresses the contradictions that make us human. If I do notice them then I just wonder about them briefly and then let it go. I'm sure if I interested a person enough and they wanted to wander through my 5000 or so posts they could find places where I contradicted myself. Whether a person is living out their real life on Lit or is engaged in an elaborate fantasy, personally, I only hope that they're finding happiness. I don't plan on lending anyone money, no one is going to get the key to my house, and I nurture and value my loving heart too much to give it easily to a stranger.

I feel similarly to Paul and Ruby. I don't pay close enough attention, unless it's somebody I' m involved with. In that case I might ask them about it privately, but maybe not. The beauty of this arena is the freedom it gives me to just move on if I see something I don't like. I' m not here to let people into my real life, so live and let live works for me.
Also, since I' m a flighty Gemini, and have been known to change my mind, I' m sure I have left contradictions all over this place. :D

Something that I have definitely learnt is to be less judgemental of people too. It's really easy to start going around criticising the habits of others that annoy you, but then you may have habits that annoy them, so it works both ways :D!

In essence, I agree with a lot of the points made, it would have to be something really really serious to prevent me from having a relationship with someone who I am strongly attached to. We all have our little habits, mannerisms, and likes/dislikes, which may cause a few disagreements here and there, but if there's a strong attraction, some shared interests, strong personal connection, chemistry, and these sorts of things, then they're always going to overcome a few little differences.

 :rose:

And what does one think of the person seeking out in any way to trip one up, going back a couple years in posts if need be, to say, "Aha!! You said this, but look back when you said that!

It's such bullshit.

You have such a direct, matter-of-fact way of looking at life. I fucking love it!

It screams GB

Hehehe

I agree on the digging until you find a contradiction, that is BS. My thought was around the guy/woman that posts catering to the board in hopes it gains them favors, and seeing them change their position on things depending on the board. I typically just shake my head when I see that kind of posting.

If they are contridicting themselves in messages they send me then I would definitely say something. But if they are doing it on the boards, I would just avoid them, like others have said, not worth the bullshit.

Stand up for what you believe in. Don't try and win favour with people by changing your statements according to who's around at the time.
As for outing those people? What's the point they're already making a tit of themselves in black and white on the boards. Quite frankly why would you want to have anything to do with someond like that anyway? I wouldn't. I like people who know their own mind and have their own views etc.
So I would let them get on with it.....unless it was hurting someone else...

I'm surprised people notice *shrugs*

And at the risk of repeating myself I love what Paul said

I don't understand it. You'd think with anonymity this place affords people, they'd be okay with having an unpopular view. Who gives a fuck? If you don't like what someone says, or you find them to be vapid and ever changing in there opinions, fuck 'em. There is only so much time one has to devote to pursuits in fun. Why let someone like that ruin it for you?

Hey afternooners, it's been awhile since I doubled up ;)

I need a ruling on using emoticons as punctuation. If you use one at the end of a sentence can the emoticon serve as punctuation, line this

Or should there always be punctuation like this?

In real life I adore punctuation. However, I type on a phone and have given up trying to be perfect in that department. If I can read a post without straining to get through poor grammar....txt lingo etc....I'm good to go.
