Hmmmm. This is one of those topics that is completely subjective. I agree with Smiler, big shocker there. I think if I'm attracted to them in the first place, then whatever there is that may or may not be a deal breaker will have to be pretty significant. I don't smoke. But I do drink. Would I want someone to say to me, "gee, you'd be perfect if you just didn't drink." Or whatever else is there that sets them off. I'd be more likely to not like someone because of a personality difference than anything else.

Yes! That is what I was trying to say!

This is a tricky question that could open a can of worms for me, and I'm likely adding several layers to the question, but I'll keep it brief.

Sexual attraction is obviously a condition of being in a romantic relationship. And unattractive piercings, being a drug addict or an alcoholic, beating cats, etc. are not sexually attractive qualities to me, and ones I wouldn't put up with.

But if you go into the not settling for "less than," that's the part that gets tricky for me. What I knew and valued at 25 isn't what I know now just shy of 40. I think I settled for several things back then, not realizing what could (or should) be.

The bottom line for me is this: You owe it to yourself to know the value of your own happiness and fulfillment. That can be incredibly hard for some people (me included), but I'm now realizing how essential it is to honor your need for sexual and emotional fulfillment in a relationship. If you meet someone who has a quality that will interfere with that, then it's time to move on. If you only realize it later in life after a long-standing relationship, then address it head on.

Tee hee I have piercings....omg are they unattractive :D

I agree though that you do owe it to yourself to value your own happiness etc.
Love isn't meant to hurt and make you unhappy or unfulfilled.

Oh and sorry Chains for killing your question hehe!!

And I realize "unattractive" is totally subjective here! I'm definitely not saying all piercings are uggo. ;)

Oh go ahead, get it all out. I enjoy the discussion.

And I'll try and keep my nipple piercings more discrete ;)

Something that I have definitely learnt is to be less judgemental of people too. It's really easy to start going around criticising the habits of others that annoy you, but then you may have habits that annoy them, so it works both ways :D!

In essence, I agree with a lot of the points made, it would have to be something really really serious to prevent me from having a relationship with someone who I am strongly attached to. We all have our little habits, mannerisms, and likes/dislikes, which may cause a few disagreements here and there, but if there's a strong attraction, some shared interests, strong personal connection, chemistry, and these sorts of things, then they're always going to overcome a few little differences.

I feel like on Lit, I' m much more likely to overlook things that might present a problem irl. I have encountered a few people who quite simply were not nice. And that was the end of that. Also, I find it much easier to deal with saying thanks but no thanks here. It's just fantasy, and there's lotsa fish in this sea.

Happy Tuesday to you all.

My original topic was lame, possibly the worst one ever, so I have modified it and posted below. Please just pretend this one didn't happen and we'll all be better off :)

Based on Mia's response, I'd like to restate the question into one that is much more interesting.

What type of personalities/people/characters do you find most interesting here at Lit? What type of person captivates you?

Nobody likes popularity contests. In the past there have been threads about "favs" or "popular" and such, and they usually get poo pooed. Nobody wants to be left out, and for the most part people don't want to forget somebody. People worry about hurting others feelings.

Also, there are a LOT of people here. I can't know them all. There are some Litsters that I find very fascinating and just have never had much occasion to interact with them.

Well done Chained, way to kill my own thread. Where were all my life lines, somebody needed to throw the thread a unicorn shitting rainbows to save it from me.

Like in RL I prefer people who have something to say and do so in an intelligent (and funny) manner.
I also like people who understand (my) humor.

Too bad you deleted your original question. I thought it was an interesting way of making people think of how they segregate people into the cool and uncool. In general I think Lit is more accepting than what you see in RL. Yes, there are still the high school like moments, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the support you can find here. Those are the people I choose to spend my time with.

I wish I'd seen the original post...something about popularity? As adults, do people really think that way anymore?

As far as who to post with? I think I respond more to what a post says, rather than who posts it.

Happy Hump Day! It's going to be a ling day so I'll keep this short and sweet:

Yesterday I deleted my original topic because I thought it was bad. I debated leaving it but in the end changed it in hopes of better conversation with the new topic.

What's Litiquette-ville's thought on leaving posts as is vs deleting them upon reconsideration?
