Happy daylight savings time! Sure we "lost an hour of sleep but I prefer DST so it's worth it.

Which brings me to our next topic. How much are you willing to suffer for Lit. What rules have you broken to be here, what have you given up big or small, to be able to chat. Has it been worth it?

Lit is my addiction, and by definition, it does interfere with my real life at times. Much less so now than when I started, so that's something at least, right?

I have two steadfast rules from my husband here (no face pics and no personal/private pics) and one firm rule of my own (no real name). They're all great rules, but I'm not sure I should comment on whether or not I've broken any of them...

I do not suffer for Lit, nor will I. First, I view Lit (and the majority of online activities) as entertainment choices. I enjoy Lit and I enjoy it on my own terms. Among those entertainment options, it is pretty low on the list - down with all the other incidental options.

^^^^ this.

Truthfully...what I sacrifice most seems to be sleep...or laundry;)
I do wish I was in the position to share my lit life with my rl....so I sacrifice that truthfulness::(:
It seems worth it when I consider how it's helped my sanity;)

I won't suffer for Lit. If it is infringing too much into my RL, it goes.
I have made my own set of rules for being here.

I will make an addendum, it had been taking up too much of my time when I first started. And when I was unemployed....which is one of the reasons I left for a few months.

I think the trick to enjoying any online community is to take it on your own terms, whatever they are.

I don't suffer for Lit - I come and go as it suits me. I enjoy the banter and adult conversations.

Thank-you. Two small words that mean so much but at times are so very difficult to say. Or even worse, used as a throw away line. Do you appreciate and acknowledge the simple things as well as the big things. When was the last time you said thank-you when it wasn't expected?

I always use Thank you and Please especially with children - - and address those I don't know as Sir and Ma'am just the way I was raised.

I always say please and thank you for most things. I don't know about other people but I'm learning to say thank you to compliments. I have a terrible habit of dodging them...even for ridiculous things. Ie: "I like your purse"...'oh it's second hand' my friend laughed and told me once...just say thanks! Lol
(Oops...ramble)

I am very polite - please, thank you, yes sir, yes ma'am. It is the way I was raised and over time I grew into it. I am thankful, every day, for the simple things in life. Life is a precious gift and it can be swept away in the twinkling of an eye, so I think we should savor it.

I'm the same way. I can thank a person for nearly anything (this evening someone pointed out a leaking bottle in my grocery cart--believe me I thanked her!)
When it comes to compliments though it's a struggle. I'm learning to just say "thank you" and shut up.

I am extremely polite. Was brought up that way and hate it when it is not returned.

That being said...I think you are asking about if you can acknowledge a compliment...which for many is very difficult.
Yes, I can. It's a wonderful thing, and to not say thank you, is spitting in the eye of the giver of said compliment.;)

I generally deflect compliments.

But as for saying 'thank you' unexpectedly? I don't know. The last time something merited a thank you. I don't pass on those opportunities, really.

I almost unconsciously say thank you kindly to the "small things". The generosity lies on the big things. I try to be thankful and grateful. I acknowledge that having a good fortune is a good trait. But I am human. So I am trying.

In the UK we often say 'thank you' and 'sorry', often together, when we're in awkward social situations. If someone steps on your toe you both say sorry... fuck knows why :D
But yes, pleases and thank you's we drummed into me as a child and I'll use TY publicly out of convention but say it with more feeling when I am genuinely touched by someone's kindness - even little things.

Happy Monday everyone. Going back to the origins of this thread, today's morning topic is about deeds not words. It seems Lit has become strife with people posting about what they intend or will be doing/acting and then not following it through. I guess I expect, in this regard, Lit to be like RL and people should do what they say or not say anything at all.

I think it's human nature for people to 'say it out loud' when they have good intentions that subsequently don't materialise, but then there are some people IRL who you'd say were just unreliable. In some friends that can be quite endearing, but in others it's just infruriating and you get suckered by their promises every time.

...My poor mother often tried to buy some silence from us kids with a promise.

I'm not sure how that translates into Lit: I don't think I've ever promised a cyber BJ :D

What Ruby said. Sometimes, I question it's role in my sanity ;)

Midday-ish topic: all of us here are fairly bright, intelligent people but I think we all share at least one flaw. The flaw I think we all share is being unable to step out of the way of the big boulder life is rolling toward us. We see it coming, we know it's going to hurt when it hits but yet all we can do is fixate on it and not act.

What flaw do you think we all share?

Thinking that we are without flaw. :D

For your morning topic...I try not to tell anybody what I'm doing, because frankly...I have no idea what I'm doing. Ever. I'm a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda gal. :D I just don't care for it when people tell *me* what to do.

For your afternoon topic...I think we're all too busy. Seriously. Can I get off this merry-go-round yet?? lol

I'd be surprised if we all shared a common flaw - life (and the experience of life) is very diverse and individualized. I am fairly sure that we all don't even share the same experience of Lit, much less a commonality as great as a flaw.
