Late night thought: Alts, everyone knows they are out there, but is it ever appropriate to maintain more than one username at the same time? Does Lit really require that much subterfuge?

Maaaaaybee.....

Early morning topic: how many of you dread the weekends a bit because it changes your online availability. (Ya know that's a sign of addiction ;) )

It doesn't really affect my availability any. I either have to work, or have my kids, so I'm here about the same amount of time anyway.

I've never understood the Alt.
I think a lot of the time it's someone who has pissed off somebody, or is hiding from another for some reason.

Or maybe it's the person who has said, that's it I'm leaving Lit, never to return, and is too embarrassed to admit defeat.

It's the two at the same time that I don't get. If anybody here uses two at the same time PM if you want. I'll pass your thoughts along anonymously.

Maybe they use one as a sweet wholesome person and the other as the dirty, naughty alter ego. Not wanting to combine the two.

I have a second Lit username. I wouldn't call it an alt, because I have never posted on the forums using it. It's for my stories.

Some of us are the same online and offline. We see no reason for an alt.

Others though, are not. They create online personas, and usually have multiple ones depending on their mood for the day. Or, they are seeking some sort of validation, so they create an alt to agree with themselves. Or, they have something they want to say, but want to do it anonymously, so they create the alt as their outspoken voice.

I get why people use alts, but I also get why people don't see the point.

I suppose I have an alt. Years ago, I was NiLLaWafer. When I came back, I couldn't remember the password and no longer had the email for password recovery.

So.. you're stuck with me like this.

Wow...interesting. Thanks Photo!

Thank you photograph, very insightful for me.

So why do you write under an alt? Does it allow you more freedom?

Nods. But I suspect you are a better writer than you give yourself credit for. I bet you will get a TON of support as Photogtaph , author

That isn't the only reason, but a large one. Another reason is this isn't the only place I'm known as Photograph. It's my email address, messenger name, and handle on a few other boards.

I write from personal experiences, which is why I don't have a lot of stories published. It takes me forever to write them. I have two that are unfinished, I'm not sure I'll ever finish them. Writing has never really been my thing, it's just something I do to clear my head.

Here's an excerpt from one I started a few weeks ago....

It had been a while since she had felt the touch of another human being. When her last relationship ended, she had moved home and threw herself into work. She knew she didn’t need the stress of a rebound relationship, so she avoided dating for the most part. There had been a couple of guys over the last year, but it never went past a date or two. The guys just didn’t strike her fancy, and she wasn’t interested in a one night stand, although they ended up that way.

She realized she was aroused and horny. She wasn’t in the mood for toys though, plus she didn’t feel like getting up off the loveseat. She would just have to either make-do or go to sleep.

The more she tried to focus on sleeping, the more her arousal grew. She decided to stop fighting the thoughts and let them flow. It always amazed her with the direction they went. She began focusing her mind on each thought as it came through. The first one was of lips. She missed being kissed. Passionately, deeply.

Her thoughts focused on a pair of lips. She could see a cupid’s bow. Her eyes were still closed, but she began tracing them in her mind. The curve of the bottom lip, how plump it was, as if inviting her to nibble and bite it. They were soft and inviting, and she wanted to run her finger along the crease where the pink of the lip met the paleness of the skin. She smiled as she imagined the light sheen left behind after a wet tongue ran across them.

Her focus on the lips began to broaden, as if zooming out of a photograph. She began to notice dark stubble. A day, maybe two days’ worth. She followed its path around the upper lip, noticing the line of skin between the pink of the lip and the dark stubble above, and how it perfectly traced the dip of the cupid’s bow. She continued tracing it with her mind’s eye to the small smooth spot at the corner of the lips to where it picked back up just before the plumpest part of the bottom lip, just before the center.
