I got to thinking last night that the unwritten rules probably don't apply to those threads that are people's personal playgrounds. Those seem to run but a different set of unwritten rules, each unique the host.

But, then again, should they apply? Is there an expectation of uniformity or does that ultimately kill threads?

I'd say it's up to whatever the OP states in the opening post. I could care less what people do in the threads I start. They're just chaotic idiotic threads for anyone or no one to respond in. They're sort of retaliatory for the "blow smoke up my ass" threads. Free-for-alls are fun to watch. But I do generally read the first post to see the rules and comply for the most part.

And to the... respond at the top in a PM:

I delete the quote in my response. What can I say, I like a fresh bowl.

This is becoming the Festivus Pole for Lit;)

What about emoticons. I've been accused of over ;) ing. I mostly use it to make sure the reader knows I'm not all super serious about my post. But I realize overuse can take away from that impact. Thoughts?

I like the smilies...they convey the intent....too many times things are taken wrong.

For me, I only like responding to PMs at the bottom and I am a mobile user. When I click in the box it takes me to the bottom.

And come on, it's just logical. :D Left to right. Top to bottom. Unless you're a Hebrew or maybe Arabic reader.

Well done, You found my peeve. :rose: The occasional smile, rose, heart, or wink is fine to let tone be understood. The eye roll can come off condescending. The frog and banana can be used once in a post and then must have a two day cooling off period. The caning one should remain in the BDSM forum at all times. The cool shades one can basically stay up the poster's ass. You're not cool, but you're trying to be and failing. The devil one tells me you're way overestimating your un-vanilla side. The rest can be used on random occasions for effect.

But I will say, when will someone finally write code to allow a sarcasm font?

I have noticed that there are only a limited amount though, but yes they can be used to give meaning to the thoughts behind your words.
After all how many times can you use OMG or LOL as well.:)

It was for illustrative purposes. I do know that my power of sarcasm is so strong it rarely gets misinterpreted. Hence the need for the sarcasm font for the others ;)

I’m curious about a few things from this thread. If I’m not allowed to PM without invitation, how do I ever get into someone’s inbox other than trolling the Request a PM thread. I'm really tired of telling guy's my dirtiest fantasies. Secondly, once in an inbox, how do I get my wank off if I can’t initiate it? Thirdly, if the other person initiates, isn’t that breaking the unwritten rule. Fourthly, if I have to wait five minutes to post after someone, and another someone doesn’t wait the appropriate time, do I have any legal channels I can pursue? Fifthly, if I can’t bump threads I like, am I destined to continuously kiss the person above me until I piss them off? Sixthly just doesn't seem like a real word so I'll stop there.

LOL....excellent points.

You were illustrating your love for me? Why didn't I see the writing on the wall sooner? :(
