Well yes, religion was created by humans. So how good can it be?

Ummm well no, not bingo. Spirit is an intensely personal thing and I try hard not cause offense by point scoring over something so emotive. We each have our own beliefs and we must respect each others' beliefs as much as we respect anything else in our lives.

I've never unloaded on anyone online. Something exasperates me and I can just skip it, ignore it, or log off. I can't remember the last time I unloaded on someone IRL either. I move on a pretty even keel.

By unloaded I meant send an angry message usually prompted by the actions of the recipient.

Yes, I agree with you. About the humiliation i mentioned in my post. I was referring to the virtue of humility and penance, the modesty.
What better and more genuine act of humility is there than the sincere confession of sins committed? Is it not the remedy of the vice of pride, the root of all sins?

It shouldn't be humility which makes one willing to confess but ones free will and ones want to repair the wrong one did. This isn't an act of humility in my book, but an act of goodwill, of wanting to better ones victims and oneself.

Until religions, Christianity and Islam in particular, rid themselves of their hierarchy that seeks to control people through their guilt, I have no time for them. I was brought up in a Christian school, sang in the choir so I am not blind to the comfort it can offer people by providing a framework for the spirit to be become understandable, but every century, that spirit is hijacked by men with a political agenda.
Guilt is not unique to people or Christians - animals feel guilt - it is an instinct acquired by social groups for its betterment.
I am a spiritual person but perhaps I am a humanist as well and if someone bears guilt for an action, it seems to me the right person to speak to , to confess to, is the person you have wronged. Only then can people truly forgive and truly be honest with each other. Confessing to a god or a priest is evading the truth and putting a sticking-plaster ( band aid ) over deception.

I'm really sorry if I upset people by saying that - I never intend harm and would never actively criticise another person's beliefs but... since we are discussing it here, that's my halfpennies' worth.

Our opinions about guilt, confession and believe systems are very much on the same page ...

I agree with you more than you realize.
For me there is a clear line between faith and religion.
Ghandi said "Each one prays to God according to his own light."
There are people who spend every Sunday in church and the rest of the week forget all about it. Isn't it better to live each day hearing that still small voice and doing right?
Where the choice is between Church and Faith I choose Faith.

Yes. Faith is what you feel, religion is what you do. This a placative stated, I know. Many people believe and follow the rules of their religion wholeheartedly and have faith, many though, like Lady says, show their religion and don't have faith.

Dutchy, darling, I wish someone other than you had posted this (now I will have guilt ). Guilt is the currency of religion.

I just stated some facts about confession. And tried to point out in what way most people (catholics included) misinterpret the concept of confession.

Was thinking the same! (And I've done my fair share of that . . .)

I've certainly unloaded some anger to a couple of particularly crass PM writers. I usually try to let those go, though, as the idiot PMs just kind of come with the territory. I just find it easier to put someone on my ignore list. But again, I haven't really been bothered by anyone too much.
