I'd agree with Sweet Sam here. For me, what gets the motor revving, is a story. At best, a picture is a starting point for a story or the retrieval point for a memory.

Not a stranger...for me....a pic adds one more element to an already existing connection. A way to feed my imagination and my fantasy.

Can't get off with a stranger. Random pictures don't do it for me. I need something else, something that can be obtained only via conversation or something similar. But pictures mean nothing.

Totally in agreement there. I couldn't care any less about pictures. Random or otherwise. As far as being with a stranger, I need a base connection to whomever - (It sounds funny to even say I need a base connection with a man, seeing as I'm married for over 20 years, but women, though I can find them beautiful and sexy, do nothing for me.) - I'm talking to, something to build on. I need my interest piqued and my desires teased and eventually sated. That, unfortunately, doesn't happen overnight.
But, I applaud all of those who can just "get it on" with little or no prep necessary, only needing a willing pair of hands to type to in order to gain some mutual stimulation.

Pictures don't do it for me, even if I know the person quite well. They can get the motor revved up a bit, but (if I use them at all) I typically just take a peek to get my fantasies started, and close them and run with it in my imagination.
I much prefer stories, audio and my own imagination.
This for me too. Thank goodness for a vivid imagination.

On the rare occasions I have the tv on, I don't really watch but I listen.

They would act out a mystery or some such story at a certain hour every day or week.
I wished they still had that.
Yes there are books on audio but not the same thing.

LOL...I've done some interviews on air in both roles, but I actually was a studio director for live national shows.
The kittens just followed me wherever I went.

As far as I know, NPR doesn't air stories. On-air skits and dramatisations, along with some other talk programs and word games and such during the weekend, but I dunno about stories. And always at midnight, it switches over to the BBC. Sounds like home.

The consenus seems to be interaction, conversation ... a stimulus other than just a foto, with which I agree. On a very personal level, wit, humor and innuendo, words from someone who has caught my attention, as well as a certain constancy and mind-fondling based on all that, is usually my motivation to let my fingers do some walking
But, the fingers can also get thwarted when what Links refers to as "some uundefined Lit level" is reached and I wasn't made aware. It is good as a learning experience though.

The novelty. Put this many people in one virtual place sans restrictions, and it's a hard thing to resist.
But it fades, I think, when social structures start to come into play. Lit wasn't meant for that, and when you add it in, well...
