Yes, as I posed in Part 3 of this history: Why did LAUREL combine the two most popular threads in AHland? Why did she do this for the first time in her 20+ year reign – a reign that has included some 900,000 threads none of which were ever combined?

I’ll give you my take on the situation but I don’t think we’ll ever 100% know what was going on in LAUREL’S brain when she made the decision. The excuse she used for general consumption “As these threads contain nearly identical content… they have been combined” (MVL thread Jan 2016)” is obviously a joke – a lame excuse to hide her hidden motive (whatever it was)!

Are these two nearly identical? Should they be combined?

Some have suggested a diagnosis of PORNMENTIA – a condition brought on by reading amateur triple x stories 24/7/365 for the last 20 years. That, although she can function normally much of the time, there are periods when she simply loses her grip on reality.

Others believe that her visits to AHland depress her, that a forum she’d once hoped in her youth would become LITEROTICA’S intellectual center has instead become a cesspool of irrelevance, a home to bickering between ace and lovergirl, a forum full of word games, a place where a wingnut from northern Florida opens endless strings of thread that no one reads.

Or is it that she simply craves excitement – that every once in a while she likes to stir the pot, to get all the little people moaning and groaning. And of course she then turns to james r scouries, jabbing him a few times to see if he can ignite a little excitement.

And then there are the regal ass kissers – the brownnosers who she both hates and adores. All rulers seem to eventually end up with a coterie of sycophants who they both need and yet despise. They have to be fed at the royal trough but these parasites are also irritating. So, even as she sneers at them behind their backs, she rewards their whining and mewling by throwing them a scourian bone.

Or maybe she just missed me! Why would she have combined these threads that had been up and running for years unless she wanted me back. That she knew that having LITEROTICA’S #1 Author back in AHland would help reinvigorate the bleak landscape of the forum. That all my threads have generated excitement, interest, discussion, ideas… She hates being criticized for some of her failings (contest rulings, site updating, posting rules, etc., etc.) but at the same time her intelligent side loves to see discussions on how the site can be improved from the authors that use the site. That simply hearing the braying of her lapdogs day after day may even be worse than having to read 25,000 generally poor smut stories every year.

But you know what? All she has to do is initiate an official MOST VOTES and MOST COMMENTS lists and this (now one) thread would disappear and we could all go back to playing word games and not reading jimmyjohnson’s threads.

Why can’t we all just try to enjoy ourselves?

Lets encourage voting and comments - not the opposite!!!!

A certain author (no names allowed as per LAURELS recent edict – see below) on the site recently stated at the end of his latest story that for this story he was leaving comments on. Normally this author has both comments and voting turned off.

Apparently in the past he’s received some negative votes and comments which he didn’t like. He even added that if he didn’t like the comments made on this story he’d eliminate them. He even referred to anyone who would make a negative comment on one of HIS stories as a moron!

Unlike this unnamed author we at ScouriesWorld believe in encouraging all readers to make comments on the stories they read. We believe it’s the best way to get feedback from the reading public.

And yes, some of these comments will be critical! But how surprising is that? A lot of stories on this site aren’t very good. Many authors don’t even take the time to check the spelling and grammar of the stories they upload. Plots can be nonexistent. Characterizations can be totally unrealistic.

Too many of our authors only want to hear compliments. Any reader who points out problems or weaknesses with a story becomes a “moron”.

But the saddest thing about the whole process is that over 80% of comments published on this site are positive! You’d never think that given all the whining we’re subjected to…​

No Susie, bashers aren’t the only ones who vote all the time. In fact the scores on LITEROTICA are ridiculously high. Always have been. Here are some figures the brilliant owlwhisper prepared some years ago (wouldn’t it be wonderful if MANU could provide us with some updated figures?). Every category but one at the time had over half their stories scored over 4. And most of them by quite a bit above 4. And if, by any chance you’ve forgotten, 4 means “Really liked it, good read”.

And 97% of votes cast on this site are 3 and over!

So please stop spreading this basher nonsense. Why has whining about scores become such an AHland staple when they should really be thanking our readers for these continually high scores (mostly unjustified!)? Even Loving Wives, the real crybaby category, averages over 4!!!!

Is August just a bad month…

...or is the drop off I’ve noticed part of a trend?

As you all know I was away from LITEROTICA through much of this year. Really hadn’t checked anything from early January until July. Today I perused the Top Lists concentrating on the 30 day lists. And I noticed some surprising developments.

First off I saw that not a heck of a lot of stories were published on the site over the last 30 days! In fact not one of the 30+ categories had used the full complement of 250 stories that were available. Which meant that an investigator can see every single story (and its score and number of votes received) published on the site over the last 30 days.

I didn’t check every single category – instead I went thru the 11 most popular categories.

And here is what I found:

* Total number of stories is way down from historic levels. (only some 2000 over the last 30 days?)
*Number of votes cast is way, way down!
*Only 31 stories received 1000+ votes (19 in LWs, 10 in Incest)
*402 out of the 1588 sampled had a red H (hot) – approximately 25%
*Only 49 out of the 1588 had a score under 3 – approximately 3% (and over half of these were LW stories)
*Median scores are way down from those reported by owlwhisper in his groundbreaking study.
*Non-Human and SciFi had far and away the highest median scores (4.62 and 4.53)
*Loving Wives, BDSM and Non Consent had the lowest median scores (3.69, 4.05 and 4.12)
*Only 5 stories have over 100,000 views – a very low number!

Compared to 2015 and earlier:
Less stories posted! Less votes cast! Less views per story! Lower median scores!

I guess the big question is: Are these results simply due to it being a summer month? Or is it an indication of a disturbing trend? It would be interesting to see MANU publish comparative figures for a five or ten year period.

Great, I have someone else finally admitting things are down here and its....scouries.

Here's another set of figures owlwhisper prepared quite a few years ago. It shows what percentage of stories in each category had received a red H during the first ten years of the ssites history.

Its interesting to compare the above figures with what happened in August of this year (yes it is a small sample but interesting!).

Incest, Erotic Couples, Non Consent and Group all had about 20% of their stories designated hot this month - a large drop off from the figures above (Incest -26%, Group -14%, EC -11%). BDSM went from 26% hot to only 12%. Even Romance dropped 10% (53% to 43%).

Gay at 23% and Lesbian at 16% also had big drop offs - Gay -18% and Lesbo -22%.

In fact only two categories saw the percentages go up. And not surprisingly they are Non-Human and SciFi. Incredibly Non Human has 82% of its stories rated hot!

Mind you there has been a large variance from year to year. Check out this table:

Which only highlights why it would be interesting to see MANU produce figures for the last ten years for comparison purposes...

So which Contest stories are getting the most votes?

It doesn’t seem to have been a very popular contest so far – only 55 stories entered by only 42 authors. And unfortunately it’s pretty much the same old gang! And the reading public doesn’t seem to have been overwhelmed by the entries – less votes, comments, views and favorites. Only 20 out of the 55 have even hit 4.5 (HOT)!

We definitely need some fresh talent and some fresh ideas from our leaders...

MORE ON VOTES:

As of today some 25,228 VOTES have been cast on the 67 Contest stories.
This works out to an average of 376 votes per story. However the mean number of votes is only 183.

The reason for this large discrepancy between the two measures is due to huge number of votes the 15 INCEST stories received. In fact these 15 stories (about 22% of the number of stories in the contest) received a combined 14,374 votes (or 57% of the total votes cast). More than the other 52 combined!

The 15 INCEST stories averaged 958 votes while the rest of the contest stories averaged 209.

Wait just one second! Everyone knows that the QUEEN does not like Incest category stories winning in her contests. In fact she’s reported to be somewhat miffed that she’s now often referred to as the “QUEEN of INCEST” in porn circles.

And there have been some changes at the top as she’s swept through the stories. A virtual unknown whose story has under 100 votes has jumped dramatically in the last few days and is now threatening the front runners. Will Buck the Duck be Fucked? Will Licking the Lotus jump over the 1000 vote stories? Will the readers of this site have their wishes thwarted again?

Well I won two hundred bucks from the boss today! Thank you LAUREL!!!!

So how did I win the $200? Two bets – the first (for a hundred bucks) I made with jim last week. A bet on which story would win first place in the contest. He got the 3 Incest stories that were leading the contest at the time and I got the rest of the field. I think even he knew that his chances were a long shot – Laurels supposed dislike of Incest is well known (until she counts her money at the end of the month) – but jim’s an optimist and he was hoping she’d finally break down and let the readers finally decide a contest. What a laugh!

So I knew I was going to win that one. So, nice girl that I am, I gave him another chance yesterday. Told him for another hundred I’d take just one story and he could have all the rest. When I told him I was taking EverLux’s story he jumped for the bet. “She’s way behind… in sixth place or something,” he said gleefully.

He wasn’t smiling when he saw the results!!!

So how did I know? Well, first of all, I knew none of the Incest stories would come first. So I just had to look around for the best bet from the other categories. Some people would have picked one of the two EC contenders. But there was no way “Licking the Lotus” had a chance – I know the QUEEN too well to get fooled by how she was sweeping that one around. And “Just Go With It” just didn’t quite make it!

So I was left with only one choice – “Learning to Love the Heat”. LAUREL gave herself away on this one about 10 days ago when it jumped from about 4.70 to 4.79 when no other story was moving.
This thing has gone from 4.70 with 145 votes to 4.79 with 137 votes to 4.81 with 133 votes to 4.91 with 123 votes. And there may have been other moves when I wasn’t watching. Looks like she swept away just about every vote that wasn’t a 5.
