What do you want to hear in the comments?

Basically the thread title.

I came across a story and wanted to leave a comment, so what kind of comments have people found helpful? Do people like specific feedback, a general "loved it," a 500 page PhD dissertation about a cheating wife (I was warned to stay out of LW until I was fireproof)?

And do people prefer comments on stories, or a one-on-one Conversation?

I know there will be as many answers as respondents, and I'm really only hoping to get a sense of what the norms are (or should be).
I like all of them.

But what helps me the most are details. Tell me what worked for you. Tell me what didn't work for you.

Best comment I ever got...one that has stuck with me for years now. It was constructive criticism telling me that the size of the Main Male Character's cock as described in the story was unrealistic and for that particular reader, it ruined the story. It drew them out of the scene and away from the fantasy.

That has stuck with me and has changed the way I write. I occasionally get rude negative comments, and honestly, if there is nothing constructive about them, I often delete them. That particular comment, I have left there as a constant reminder to me to be more careful when I write. To be mindful of getting my sizes correct.

So like a lot of people have said already, "Loved it" is nice, but constructive/informative comments are better. Tell me what worked/didn't work. Help me be a better writer. I may not agree with you, and it may not change anything. But you may have spotted something that I didn't.

I just want comments in general (I don't get many), it would be nice to know what people think about the story, characters etc.

I invite readers to leave them, and "write better" as others have said. But at the end of the day, there's only so much you can do.

I think the favourite comment was one I got today:

From this, I learned:
- Anon has liked one of my stories enough to read it multiple times
- I have an audience outside gay dudes
- My writing moved someone to tears, and the reasons why

Thanks anon :) you made my day

I might get one or two.

@TheRedLantern,
Good evening, the feedback, be it from the "comment" section or via "one-on-one" is fine by me as long as it is not simply some hater ranting with no constructive commentary to follow up with.

Naturally we all want to get "Gushing praise" for our stellar efforts and legendary results - we all have an ego after all. I would even take the "Gushing" with an addendum of, "Have you ever thought about/ considered changing" suggestion/s because I know my reader is trying, genuinely, to be helpful.
Respectfully,
D.

(P.S. I've read some LW pieces, and the comments. I ain't never going in there )
