Lies vs While Lies

I'm listening to a song about a guy that pretends he has a back injury, so, he doesn't have to go to work on Fri. He calls it a white lie. My question, what's the differenece between a lie & a white lie?

I would think a white lie does no one any real harm. Like staying home from work as opposed to saying you don't know where those condoms came from.

A White Lie is one you tell, the regular lie is the one they tell you.

Some people say that a white lie is a lie that does no harm - like when you are trying to aviod hurting someones feelings...say your friend has a new baby - which in your opinion is the ugliest baby in the world - if the parents say to you "isn't he/she beautiful?" what are you going to say in return??? Would you say "No dammit thats one ugly motherfucker" or "yes".

We've all done it, it doesn't make it right but we have all done it.
