The Midwest (US) braces, the people with supplies laid in and trucks filled with salt. It's gonna be a rough night--no place for man or beast.

If it gets deep enough, I get to stay home tomorrow with no consequences. :D

It's almost a guaranteed snow day tomorrow, but I requested the day off before Christmas break. I feel cheated out of a snow day somehow.

Darn it! You lucky lucky bastards!

We're stuck with 70 degree, dry, sunny weather. :( I'm getting so tired of wearing teeshirts....

You know, I think you're just being mean. It was 2 below when I got up this morning.

Shhhhh! There are enough sun seekers here, don't need any more. .

Talk about the fog and the overcast and how it hangs around all day. :D

And the UK is suffering its worst for thirty years.
Too cold for too long. . . . .

Its 22 degrees this morning in Central Florida; snow is forecast for Saturday.

Snow Day! 5 inches and still falling.

Molly, What state do you live in? I always thought it was Ohio or lower Mich.
I'm in Ohio, expecting snow today but nothing yet.
Kids were off Mon and Tues for snow days. Ther letting them out 2 hours early in anticapation of snow today.

You need to aim a little south.

I'm not! Honestly. Maybe it's because I've never lived in a cold climate, but you can get sick to death of what seems to be an eternal summer--with none of summer's benefits like summer fruit, and all of summer's detriments, like traffic to the beach.

I wanna see some snow!

Friend in London mentioned that there's a "grit" shortage? Which, as I understand it, means not enough salts and such for the roads?

Come on over to the midwest. You'll find more than you bargained for.

Ah, but snow days are lovely...

hey, the uk is suffering too?

Oh very Yes.

Snow is all around, and unexpectedly deep in places.
Of course, this also means that there are some fine examples of snow sculpture to be seen; and it ain't all snowmen.

Oh, by and large there are sufficient stocks, but it's all in the wrong places and transport is "difficult". This means that the roads as "prioritised" for gritting. This means that obscure back roads and many housing estates are not getting cleared. Crawl to the main drag and catch a bus (if they can get it started), no sweat. Make it easy for some little old Lady to get to the local shop for milk or bread - no chance.

For some reason, winter always comes as a surprise to several Local councils. . .

Snow day! A bit short of the projected five inches, although it was enough to cancel the dentist appointment.

No snow day here as the bulk of the snow did not start until after the schools usually have to make their go-no go decision. Looks like we may have gotten around 5 inches or so with more falling and the younger son is looking forward to running the new snowblower. :D

That sentiment, very definitely, falls into the category of Be Careful What You Wish For.

Me mum used to love to tell the tale of someone she met in college, a woman who hailed from Puerto Rico, who had never seen the stuff before. The first time it snowed, my mother watched with enormous delight as that exotic product of the tropics scooped up a handful of snow and put it into an envelope intending to post a sample of the curious substance home.

Still snowing here in west central Illinois. Got enough overnight for them to cancel school - much to my 13 year old's delight. Supposed to keep snowing into the night too...13 year old is praying for a 4-day weekend. My fiance, however, still has to come home from work tonight and go in tomorrow morning, so he's praying for it to stop. Whoever is listening to the prayers in this household must be awfully confused right now. LOL

Be safe to those who are in this storm...stay in if you can, be careful if you can't. For those in the warmer climates...we'll be happy to send this your way!

You laugh but we've been going through a very long drought--and snow on the mountains comes our way as water in the summer, so we need an abundance of that. So, please, DO send it here.

Remember, we pay for this eternal summer (no rain, no snow) with fire seasons that, lately, have been burning up thousands of acres every August-November like clockwork. We need what you've got!

The show outside my front window is entertaining, to say the least.

You see, we've had a lot of rain this year. When I say a lot, I mean an abundance so overwhelming that the rivers are still swollen. Here, in the river bottoms, that much rain causes several issues. One of those issues is every crawlspace in my neighborhood is still pumping water into the yards and streets.

The planners of this subdivision were not very bright. They didn't put any storm drains in the back part. I don't think they were planning ahead for growth. Anyway, with nowhere else to go, the water has collected in the street out front and, with the frigid temps, has turned into a lovely skating rink.

On top of that ice lies 6 inches of snow. The snow plow finally decided to come through and took the corner a little too quick. Since I live on said corner, I'm used to people ending up in my front yard. I'm just not used to seeing several tons of truck and salt sitting 'neath yon maple tree.

:D:devil::D

If the son-of-a-bitch takes out my mailbox again this year, I'm going to set the hounds of hell on his ass.

Still, it's all very fun to watch. He's trying to figure out the best way to remove his equipment without tearing up my lawn and landscaping and facing a possible lawsuit against the county.

Don't worry, partner. I won't sue. But you will find yourself out there this spring, fixing it all with your own hands.

I did not mean to offend anyone 3113. An extreme of any kind of weather is not a good thing. It has been in the negative here for over a week now and I could either worry about it, or make light of it. I chose to make light of our situation. That does not mean I was making light of the serious nature of the weather in different parts of the world. Please forgive me.
