Laura Be A'Comin'

Hurricane will largely miss half of Houston, so what happens? A truck carrying radioactive waste overturns on Interstate 45 this morning and spills waste over three lanes.

"The answer my friends, is glowin' in the wind...."

Look on the bright side - when the power goes out, everything will be glowing!

They reeeaaalllyyy need too cut the drama and sensationalism.

I'm really starting to question whether some of these weather channel people are being told to minimize the severity of storm predictions.

I've been following this storm for a while and it's gone from being projected to make landfall as a cat 1 to now being a cat 4.

With recent history informing us about how global warming is causing more rapid and greater intensification, I think they need to update their models for predicting the potential threat of future storms.

For those of you who were thinking this wasn't going to be that bad due to the predictions/projections, I hope you took them with a grain of salt and prepared for the worst.

Take care.

Local TV showing the I-10 west access road completely jammed to the west side of Beaumont....with cattle.

Massive cattle drive to get them doggies to higher ground. Git along!

The people who live in that area ... it's interesting. They're sort of torn between being ultra-vigilant and going, "Eh, I've ridden these out before." Letting them know this isn't the kind of storm you can ride out is a worthwhile endeavor.

Pleased that Galveston, my beloved trashy vacation spot, is going to be spared, or at least spared by its historic standards. Beaumont/Port Arthur won't be as fortunate, although neither is exactly picturesque at the best of times.

Also, Calcasieu Parish (Lake Charles and environs) is the populated area likely to get the most wind damage, and there's a lot of Covid-19 there. The people who have no choice but to go to a shelter are really at serious risk.

Storm surge won't even top the seawall at Galveston....immediately to the right, Bolivar Peninsula will be 4 feet underwater (the other side of the ferry).

They can do that without going all Irwin Allen.

They're probably doing it because the storm was undersold to begin with.

I saw reports not long ago that said it was going to be a cat 1 at landfall.

They're scrambling to keep up with the rapid intensification of the storm.

With global warming and the last few hurricanes that did the same thing, they should have been sounding the alarm much sooner about the likelihood that it would turn into a cat 4.

The same thing happened with Katrina. People forget that it went across South Florida and came out on the Gulf side as a tropical storm, but then it really blew up in a hurry.

almost a cat 5 now with winds 150+

largest known storm to hit louisiana

Good God, nearing Cat 5, I had a bad feeling about this one. Definitely stay safe people around that area. Get out.

What a shitty year.

Please tell me people down there took this seriously and didn't think it was "fake news".
i hope so... can't speak for them since i'm up in tennessee but the weather guys seem to think it's been taken seriously. footage showed some are riding it out on their boats, but i believe that was west of galveston.
