Laura Be A'Comin'

after getting let off the hook, relatively speaking, with the first one, this second looks to be a big bad mess

stay safe, people

Houston will get about 6 to 9 inches of rain. Fast moving storm, so more wind damage than storm surge.

The L Storm has graduated and Hurricane Warnings have been hoisted.

are you staying put or moving away for a day or so?

6-9" of rain sounds a WHOLE lotta water, and the storm surge is expected to be what...8' or so?

4PM update shows an H up into the ArkLaTex.

That can't be good.

Houston has a crappy drainage system too right?

To the contrary, Houston has one of the best drainage systems in the United States. I'm not kidding, it's awesome. We have the Addicks-Satsuma reservoir which is a monsterous catch basin about 10 miles wide and 16 feet deep....you need something that big, as flat as Texas is. it has a natural drain to the Gulf of Mexico.

The ONLY thing it wasn't designed to handle was a "stalled hurricane" which is what Harvey was three years ago. It filled the reservoir (something I did not think was possible) and the Army Corps of Engineers made the decision to open the flood gates (to prevent the entire collapse of the system. It decimated entire neighborhoods....neighborhoods that never should have been built in the 70s, 80s, 90s, but Texas land commissioners had a *wink *nudge relationship with builders and what're the odds of a 100-year flood? Well, we had our 500-year flood.

Laura is going to be a fast moving storm so I doubt there will be much of a storm surge (famous last words).

Houston actually got downgraded to a "Tropical Storm Warning" today (landfall Wednesday night 7 pm) but up in FGB's hometown of Lufkin they got upgraded to a Hurricane Watch. Seems God is a might upset with Lufkinites.

Weather people are telling us 60MPH sustained wind for several hours gusting up to 80-85 MPH maybe. 1-3 inches of rain.

If it tracks a few more miles to the west! The Shit is in the wind!

I am in Lufkin TX.

Oh and the eye of Laura is going to go right over "refinery row" in Port Arthur TX. Six major gasoline refineries there.

If any ONE of them is knocked off line, expect gas prices to double south of the Mason Dixon line by Saturday. Fill up your car or truck NOW.

Oh.

You know this Boy Scout has already taken care of that...

Stations are already running out of Gasoline here.

Traffic is heavier and will really get rough tomorrow!

The PO PO will have to break out the M-16's again.

It rained a little overnight. Today was a little windy at times, it stayed around 30c, it was nice.

Now forecast to come ashore as a Major. They gonna' get it bad, and that ain't good.

Talking about hitting as a Class 4 Hurricane. Spanking the shit out of Lufkin Tx. After midnight tonight with Class 1 or maybe class 2 winds.

Shits in the wind!

The spaghetti models are all over the place.

Fucking Italians... Can't even predict the weather properly.

Forecast downgraded to 2 to 4 inches of rain total at Stately Downsouth Manor.

Pfft....I did all my hurricane grocery shopping for no reason yesterday.

watching the forecast this morning, they seemed pretty worried about houston if the storm doesn't shift to the right some, more from the high winds though

anyway, stay safe you old rogue.

Hurricanes are notorious for not making landfall where projected. So all of you guys be prepared!

and this one's a biggie. gonna affect people inland as far as 30 miles or so in places with storm surge flooding and that's not even mentioning the winds of this thing.

hope people were able to get out as the warning was 'wherever you are by noon is where you're gonna have to take shelter and stay'.:eek:
