The money for this fight comes directly from the teachers union but the impetus behind the fight is strictly cultural. The left is proud of the fact that they have taken over the public education system and turned it into their private domain for indoctrination of children to their ideas.

They would be outraged if that were true coming from the right but it's okay coming from the left because their ideas policies and belief systems are correct. The same people that demand the choice to abort children did not parents the right of choice of who educates them and how. Because they know better.

One of the best examples of crony whatever is the relationship between Democrats and the teacher unions. Schools are failing students of ALL races by any real measure. Proficiency rates in reading and the most basic math truly suck.
In a lot of districts, public schools are the real prisons. Give parents a chance to make a choice for their children, and if the school they choose is lacking they can try another.
Who knows, faced with real competition public schools might even improve.

The government realized most of the parents really just want free babysitting.

So they dress it up as "education" and boom...public daycare services....errr...sorry I mean 'schools'.

They will never teach kids anything except a degraded to the lowest common denominator (gotta make sure everyone gets a gold star!!! because feelings and funding) standardized test with zero context as to how to use any of it.

Vouchers ain't gonna fix that.

Reality is if you want your kid to be well educated in something other than how to multiple choice you need to send them to private school.
