My step-mum taught kindergarten in the separate school (RC) system. Good friend taught kindergarten for the public school system. Both real cool ladies and very professional when it came to teaching. I hold them up as ideals for teaching and their opinions carry a lot of weight with me.
Now I had a math teacher in college who did not know about the British long ton. Had to supply a dictionary to prove to him that there was indeed three tons or tonnes. US Short, British Long and Metric Tonne. He eventually was fired for being a drunk.
Always had high opinion of most teachers. They are human so not perfect. But more than not are very professional and dedicated to their profession and the education of children.
Canada has colleges (not same as US universities, more technical school) as part of the publically funded school system. As a result Canada leads by far over the world with post secondary educated workers. Very practical system. Trades and service industry training. Quite a few university grads go to college first or after to get a more real life education.
