Just curious, how attached are we to our vehicles?

Not drive? Nooooooooooooo!!!

What would you do if, for some reason, you could no longer drive? How would you feel? How much do we really depend on our vehicles for everyday life?

I drive my son's truck. I feel close to him when I drive it & I never let anyone else drive it. I have a little Plymouth that sits in the parking lot, but I keep it for when I have company. I hate the thought of not being able to drive someday. I will probably be one of those scary little old ladies driving a big ole truck so people will get out of my way. Living in a major metroplitan area, I have to have a way to get around. Not all of the cities down here have mass transit systems or public transportation.

Not drive?

Jesus how would I shop? I guess it would be great for getting me back in shape but I don't think i'd go out as much either. Back when I was younger in my early 20's It prob wouldn't have made a major difference but as the years have gone by I don't even go to the corner fast food place that often without driving.

That being said: I HATE MY CAR! I HATE MY CAR! I HATE MY CAR!!
Grin got a lincoln continental it's huge and a gas guzzler pluss breaks down alot....I need to get a new car but keep putting it off.

Well...

just getting untied from the rollbar is difficult enough to do.

Kill some one.

Sick.

Not much for everyday, but I do love driving, and the journey not just the arriving.

Ps Two of the above are jokes lets see how many can spot the deliberate mistakes.

Hahahahaha...funny you should ask!

We have more cars than most people need (69 Camaro, 96 Impala, 86 Grand National, and a piece of junk Tempo), so the thought of not having a car available never entered my mind.

Until last month.

The Camaro is a really meant for the track only, it is not a daily driver. The GN was in the shop having the engine rebuilt and my husband was in an accident with the Impala. Suddenly, we're down to one really sucky car. It was not good. Work, school, shopping were all too far away not to drive. We ended up borrowing a car from his father (the car/driver ratio runs in the family). I would refiance the house to the hilt before I'd go without a car.

I know this wasn't really part of the question, but how attached am I to our cars? I cried like a baby when I saw the damage done to the Impala (hubby was unhurt, btw).

I am SO attached to my car!!! Or I would be if I had one... ;)
I drive my mom's Cutless Supreme whenever I can, which is often. Public transportation is alright, but dammit, it doesn't usually offer door-to-door, when-i-want-it service.

Ok, so a car isn't, and shouldn't be, a necessity for me. People do rely on their vehicles WAY too much. But on the other hand, owning a vehicle means convenience, efficiency and comfort.

BTW, is it a SPECIFIC car you're attached to, or just the fact of HAVING one?

I must say, I had no idea how much I really depended on my truck until I was without it for a week due to repairs. It didn't matter so much in daily stuff, since I ride the bus to campus, but when it's 2am, and all the 24 hour stuff is on the other side of town, and you have no eggs and want to bake cookies... it sucks!! Well, and I think the main thing was, it's my escape route, for some reason I feel better knowing that when ever I want I can just pack up my truck and leave.

As far as being attached to vehicles, definately! When I wrecked my first truck, I was more concerened about it than anything else, and I cried & cried! When it was confirmed beyond repair, I mourned it's loss. My parents probably thought I was nuts, for the short time it sat in our back yard, I kept walking around it, petting it and apologizing!

Well, I used to be VERY attached to my car. Now that I don't have one anymore, I've been kicked into shape again LOL.

But I do love to hog my dads Audi and cruise. Without him knowing that it's actually me who has taken it. Of Course.

No car for me would be a problem, there is absolutely nothing within walking distance for me. I could bike to get groceries, if I had a bike. But getting to work would be a big problem- too far away and no public transportation. Yes, I depend on having a car. I'm American, that should just about cover it. :)

I have to admit that I'm happy that I don't own a car. They are way to expensive here in Denmark. And don't talk about gas prices!! Geeeez!!!

I do however have one of those:

It's a great mean of transportation when you live in the city, and I also used it on longer trips in the summertime.

When I'm going places further away here in Denmark, I mostly go by bus or train, and I have to admit that I don't mind it at all, because I can use the time in the train to read.

You know Shyguy. I used to have one of those. Then some loser stole it. And I bought a car.
That good ole' Toyota was at least more difficult to steal. That one they couldn't lift up onto a pickup truck and drive off with.

I love to drive!!!

Right now we own two vintage boats - a '69 Caddy CoupeDeville and a huge '79 Lincoln Continental - and a very yuppie'esk black Blazer with killer Sony CD sound - and a Kawasaki 750 - now that's way too much shit to own for anyone, I mean anyone, who lives and works in Manhattan. Auch! The parking $$$$, the insurance$$$$, el shit o! And for sure - something's got to go pretty soon - probably the Stinkin' Lincoln (even though I love this pig) - but - this just demonstrates how much I do love to drive.

Spark.

SAME HERE, KITTY EYES

I work 61 miles from where I live so I need a car to get around. And I have 3, though only one gets me around. I bought a 1986 Cadillac Cimmaron that gave me a whole week of service before constantly overheating. Then I bought a 1990 Chevrolet Berretta GT. It was quite reliable until this June when the intake manifold finally cracked. So now I use the "Brown Bomber", which is a 1987 Plymouth Colt. So far, it's holding out for me and damn good on gas.
But my favorite of all cars in my life was a 1972 Buick Riviera. It was my first "pimp car". I used to work at a salvage yard and had access to parts from Cadillac DeVilles and ElDorados and Oldsmobile 98's and Toranados that I would spoof up my "Blue Max" with.

Not being able to drive just plain sucks! Since breaking my neck two years ago, I haven't been able to drive. As for being attached, I still have the Jeep I rolled even though it's basically a pile of scrap metal. I'm currently working on a panel truck that I can drive. It's going to be a mild street rod, that I can drive daily. Until it's done, I'll be relying on the great old public transportation. :(

I actually had mine stolen once too, but got a call a few days later from the police that it was found again! Phew!!

I had a car before I got my scooter, and that sure was an expensive experience! So since I could borrow the money in the bank, i ditched the car and got my scooter. Best investment I've ever made!

WHAT!!!!!!!!!.. no car.... oh shit...now what..my life is over..lol

As far as driving goes, you learn to put it out of your mind. In my case I've got no choice as I have a neurological disorder, in which I lost my licence years ago after experiencing a grand mal seizure behind the wheel. Tried driving off and on since (small jaunts on country roads, etc) but the mind wanders and I don't feel safe enough to allow myself to do it or risk the lives of others. I truly do miss driving, especially my old buick regal..man that sucker went!! I guess it does suck now that I think about my buddy's 1969 mustang. Now thats a car I'd love to drive!..even up and down his sidestreet...hmm tempting!!!!!

I drive a 1998 Honda Accord v6. Her name is Esme, and she is family.

I live in Southern California, and there is no way I CAN'T drive. Every place I have to be is some distance from where I am, at any given time.

Esme is a lot of fun, and a worthy successor to Hoss (a 1985 Mercury Topaz), Vicky (1985 LTD Crown Victoria), Paint (1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera) and the Queen Mary (1970 LTD wagon), the Creampuff (1965 Galaxie), and the Harvey Wallbanger (1962 Chevy Nova; I learned to drive in Harve).

I guess you could say I get attached to vehicles.

I moved to a small city so I could walk to work. I absolutely dislike driving. It sure simplifies things. Fresh air, smiles, exercise, and all on the way to work. Wake me I must be dreaming!

Shy Guy, why do you drive a giant praying mantus?

Any I the only one who noticed what that thing it?
